Publisher's Summary

In the Pandorax System, on the death world of Pythos, an ancient secret that has laid buried for millennia has been unearthed....

Ignorant of this terror, troopers of the Catachan 183rd, stranded on Pythos and under the command of Colonel 'Death' Strike, find themselves under attack by the forces of Chaos. Daemons in their thousands flock the sky, and none other than Warmaster Abaddon leads the attack.

With the Death Guard and Black Legion arrayed against them, the Catachans appear to be doomed, until salvation arrives in the form of the entire Dark Angels Chapter, led by Master Azrael and a host of heroes. But what is the so-called 'Damnation Cache'? What secrets does it harbour and why has it also attracted the attention of the daemon-hunting Grey Knights?

This one has it all!

This story has it all, epic battles, Imperial Guard, Dark Angels, Grey Knights and the taint of chaos. Well written and well read.

Is this what the fans want?

Main character is a female person of color and the book has lots of female representation. Not what I look for in my 40k books.

Dark Angels Lover

A very good WH40K book, it covers both the glorious Imperial Guard, and the Adeptus Astartes. For Dark Angels fans I can honestly say, that these will enjoy this book the most. Yet, I believe most 40K fans will like the story, and find the plot twists and cliffhanging Chapter endings to their liking :) The narrating is good, and it is easy to "hang on" as the story progresses. Overall I would say it is very Worth listening to!

audio

the only reason I give this book one star is that the audio is so low that its to the point of not worth listening to. If the audio ever gets an upgrade then I will properly rerate the book.

great book, bad-ish audio

love the book, but the volume overall is at like 60% normal, the announcements are loud at the beginning and the end but I find myself listening at 100% just to hear. Great book though, 3rd time through it!

Everyone and his dog

I enjoyed this book. Non stop action but with good humour.

Whole chapter of dark angels with some well named characters.

Gareth Armstrong does a great job of narration. Good voices. Loved his Corpelax voice.

Overall, a solid book for fans of 40K

I did enjoy this book, i'm not going to lie: I though overall the story was pretty well paced, brought in some interesting ideas and didn't fall back onto the usual "Marines turn up" and then everything is ok!

Positives:
Nice use of Characters.
Casualties match the fluff: marines are far from immune, Guardsmen die in droves.
Nice mix of battles: no cookie cutter stuff.

Con's:
Mixed voice's: some are REALLY good, some are very mediocre. It doesn't ruin the story but it doesn't make it either.
Sometimes odd character interactions: I won't spoil it for you but on occasion it does leave you scratching your head.
Parts of the story are fun but don't really contribute to the overall journey
LOTS of dates; I got fed up of hearing a string of numbers before a very small chapter. I understand this works on Paper but on audio it makes it feel disjointed

An amazing experience

The character development and story was inspiring. Gareth Armstrong's vocalisation of this brilliant book gave life to characters great and small. Whole heartedly recommend this experience.

shockingly read.

the choice of accents and voices used for the characters is disappointing to the point of almost ruining the story.
however if you can soldier through it all the story is quite good indeed

More like fan fiction

This black library novel reads more like fan fiction then a real story the amount of famous characters turning up and the crazy stuff they do makes it seem like it was written by a fan instead of a real author
