Publisher's Summary

Captain Dominika Egorova of the Russian Intelligence Service (SVR) has returned from the West to Moscow. She despises the men she serves, the oligarchs, crooks, and thugs of Putin’s Russia. What no one knows is that Dominika is working for the CIA as Washington’s most sensitive penetration of SVR and the Kremlin.

As she expertly dodges exposure, Dominika deals with a murderously psychotic boss; survives an Iranian assassination attempt; escapes a counterintelligence ambush; rescues an arrested agent and exfiltrates him out of Russia; and has a chilling midnight conversation in her nightgown with President Putin. Complicating these risks is the fact that Dominika is in love with her CIA handler, Nate Nash, and their lust is as dangerous as committing espionage in Moscow. And when a mole in the SVR finds Dominika’s name on a restricted list of sources, it is a virtual death sentence....

This Narrator is awful

I haven’t listened to enough of this story to tell you if it lives up to Red Sparrow. Though I am a few chapters in and the context is enjoyable so far. The narrator however is quite simply awful - I cannot listen to anymore of her. I strongly dislike the accents; she maked Forsyth & Gable sound like uneducated, old school rednecks and Dominika arrogant and less complex. She mispronounces a lot of the names, including Dominika’s which is irritating to say the least. It is for these reasons I could only give the rating I did, it is unlistenable. It is disappointing they didn’t keep the same narrator as red sparrow.

Great sequel; distracting narration

In terms of story Palace of Treason ups the ante on Red Sparrow, packing a little more action to accompany the technical insight into the world of global intelligence agencies. Some of the situations are a little more fanciful, but this is a change for the better, adding a little more suspense, urgency and excitement.

The narrator switch from the first book is a major disappointment. When speaking normally the narrator's voice is pleasant and clear, but there are some issues that make it hard to listen at times. There are a lot of distracting pronunciations - either incorrect, inconsistent or very different from the first book, as well as some strange emphases during passages. The voices given to characters are downright terrible, ranging from strange to annoying to downright grating. The cartoonish choices and weird cadences often take you right out of the story.

If you can read Palace of Treason rather than listening to it, I would recommend you do so. If audiobook is the only option, the story still has enough intrigue and drive to help you persevere and put any qualms about the narration aside (for the most part).

Poorly narrated

Story line was destroyed by male voices that sounded like an episode of the Simpsons

Good sequel, poor narration.

In so many ways a better book than Red Sparrow but hard to listen to the narration. Her general reading and story telling was pleasant enough but her character voices and pronunciation of certain words and names is hard on the ears.
Why wasn't the same narrator used for this book as the other two books in the trilogy?

Excellent Narrator!!!

I almost did not download this book after Red Sparrow because of all the criticism toward the narrator Jennifer Vuletic. After many attempts to find a copy by a different narrator, I could not and thought I would give her a go. What the!! Jennifer is the most versatile reader I have listened to with flawless accents, Russian, French, American. There were often times when she was playing the evil Russian Zyuganov and other male characters such as Gable etc when I could not believe it was a woman's voice. As well as this she brings a beautiful feminine touch to the female characters. I am disappointed she is not narrating the final book in this fantastic series.
5 stars Jennifer Vuletic!!

Give the Narrator a chance!

Takes some adjustment after Jeremy Bobb, but Jennifer Veletic does a great job! Great impersonations

Terrible American accents

Just… laughably bad. It was painful to listen to at times, is this really how she thinks Americans sound…

Good follow up

Red sparrow was a pinch ahead in storyline. Still enjoyable however with good character development.

Part 2

Loved the continuation of the story. I liked the female voice, which gave an authentic sound to the Russian words, especially the female characters.
