About this listen

For 12 years, the virtual world of Yggdrasil has served as the playground and battlefield for the skeletal lord Momonga and his guild of fellow monsters, Ainz Ooal Gown. But the guild's glory days are over, and the game is shutting down permanently. When Momonga logs in one last time just to be there when the servers go dark, something happens - and suddenly, fantasy is reality. A rogues' gallery of fanatically devoted NPCs is ready to obey his every order, but the world Momonga now inhabits is not the one he remembers. The game may be over, but the epic tale of Ainz Ooal Gown is only beginning....

For those who weren’t aware the overlord novels are rather distinct from the anime’s portrayal and is absolutely worth exploring. Tho the audiobook doesn’t include the light novel’s overlord esc images, the novel nonetheless takes well to the audiobook format. Having this novel narrated is also great for retention, the book being fairly verbose.

On another note the narrator is Chris Guerrero the same guy who does the English dub for Momonga which results in instant familiarity for anyone acquainted with the anime and is great. However one point of detraction is that the voices of other characters especially the female cast is not as distinct.

Awesome

I can honestly say that having these novels read by the same voice actor as the anime was the best touch. the novels are more detailed than the anime and are fantastic! just.... *chef's kiss*

everything I could have hoped for

A little slow paced compared to the anime but the world building makes up for it. the voice acting is on another level. Definatly one of my favorites on this platform.

Superb voice acting!

As an Overlord fan, this audio book was a grateful surprise: the delivery from the actor was excellent (I think he is the voice of Ainz in the english version of the anime), which made the story even better. Highly recommended.

Excellent rendition of the story

Being a huge fan of the anime I was excited to hear the source material, and to have it read by Chris was even more to be excited about, my expectations were not only met but exceeded. Loved it

Fantastic

As a fan of the animated series it’s great to be able to learn more about the story that the anime can’t show in its limited run time. People who haven’t read a Light novel before will complain about the length but that just means you get more story packed into individual volumes (Vol 1 covers around 2 episodes of the anime)

As for the narration, it’s awesome to hear the English voice actor of the main character bringing life to the story, making it easy to move between the source materials.

A great deep dive into the world of overlord

I enjoyed this audio book immensely. The narrator is great and Overlord is another light novel done justice.

Yen audio has outdone themselves yet again.

A great isekai.

Set up for an incredible ride read by a fantastic and passionate narrator. If you are familiar with the anime, then volume one covers up to around Momonga's initial first few days in the world, so it's a quick read. The complex world building and large cast of characters is supported by the author's detailed and vivid storytelling, but after hearing Chris Guerrero's narration, I don't think I would have even half of the enjoyment reading it myself as I did listening to him. He actually plays Momonga in the English Dub of the anime - and it's clear why. I listened to it during my commutes to work and who knew that you'd WANT to be caught in traffic, just so you could listen a little bit longer? Get on it and download!

Absolutely amazing!

it manages to make me cringe harder than the anime. i don't think it adds much to the story that a book adaptation of media usually would. instead it's 8 hours to get more or less exactly what you get out of watching a 20 minute anime episode.

at least it's true to the o.g plot
