Publisher's Summary

Conspiracies. Corruption. Serial killers.

You name it - I'm fascinated by it. My mom always blamed my overly curious and highly suspicious mind on my dad.

My incredibly overbearing dad.

Mr. No One Is Good Enough For My Daughter has been terrifying my dates since I turned 15.

College is my chance to be free from his control and date any guy I want.

I'm absolutely certain he would hate Slade Wylder - almost as certain as I am that I do too.

Since when have I shied away from trouble?

Slade fascinates me. He lives in a house I'm certain is haunted. His dog is trained as well as any guard I've ever seen. Rumor on campus is that he deals drugs. It would explain a lot.

But it doesn't explain why he saves me from my darkest moment.

It doesn't explain why I can't stop thinking about him.

And the explanation I finally discover is far more dangerous than any rumor.

Out of Love is a stand-alone novel in the highly-acclaimed Jack & Jill Series.

Ridiculous, no story, so disappointing

The narrator is aweful to listen to. Her Missy voice is intolerable. There is no storyline, not worth the time and effort.
So disappointing as usually love this author.

Every Jewel book is a five star read.

I whole heartedly believe that every book Jewel E Ann writes is perfection. This woman knows how to write relationships of every kind. Some take you out of your comfort zone. Some you may find are so out of your wheelhouse that it’s difficult to commiserate with what a character may say, do, or act. Some are like reading about yourself on the page. Regardless (or maybe because ) of that, every book will hit you right in the feels while simultaneously giving you some laughs. Every character is flawlessly developed, and while it may at first seem as if a trope is a familiar one, she takes it to a place others authors don’t often do. Every one of her books has me thinking about it long after, and I have read them all numerous times. She is hands down my favorite author and I can say with complete honesty she is the only author that I have given 5 stars to every book she’s written, even her earliest works when most authors are honing their skills. Please note, I do not personally know Jewel, will probably never ever meet her, and I realize may seem like an obsessed weirdo, but for real, something about her writing makes me ignore all responsibilities and just read, read, read until unfortunately the book ends. I’m in awe of her brain and so appreciate that she decided to share it with all of us. Do I like some narrators of her books more than others? Sure, but even my least favorite one can’t hide how great the stories are. Waiting for the next release is the hardest part, but it’s always worth it.

I think Jewel E Ann just became my new addiction!

Out of Love is a spin of to another of her series. One that I'll read ASAP, because yeah... I've listened to this book without reading Jack and Jill first... I didn't knew it was related to other series, until I was really interested in Livy's Dad (Jackson Knight) own story!

But back to this book and Livy and Wylder's story... I just love it!
It's a classical case of sunshine girl and grumpy guy, but at the same time, it's full of mystery, emotions, assassins, twists and turns.

She was intrigued by him and his German Shepard, that accompanied him even during their college classes, so as a curious sunshine, she tried to make a friend out of him... Well... That didn't go too well for her... At least not at first (or second).

Until something bad happens, and the one that didn't even spares her a glance before, was the one to save her from an attack.

Their relationship evolved from annoying neighbors, to some kind of mutual love for his dog, to an undeniable attraction, that they couldn't stop feeling.

Slade Wylder was hot, mysterious, quiet, grumpy and he practically didn't say nothing to Livy other than bark a few threats, but I could understand her drawn to him as a moth to a flame!
What can I say? I'm a lost cause when it comes to the broken silence and mysterious bad boy.

But he held many secrets... As much as her dad, and those secrets probably weren't a secret to those who read Jack and Jill series, but to me? Holy cow! Her dad did really a bunch of questionable things at the end, and took protectives to a whole new level!

Jericho (the dog) is almost like another main character, and I loved all the scenes that he was in it!

It was a great story and I couldn't put it down! I still have a couple of questions aftee that end... But I guess that those questions where purposely left unanswered...

About the audiobook...
The narration was by a single woman, and again, I did prefer when I have male narrator for the Male POV chapters, so she did a great job bringing in the emotions and the right tones into the story, but her male voice isn't of an alpha male like Wylder or Jackson, so I missed their voices.

Conflicted

3.5 stars
There were so many things to like about this book. The flawless writing. The mystery and intrigue. The incredible dynamics between Livy Knight and Slade Wylder. It was all so good!! And these characters, l could not get enough of them - Livy especially. Loved her! If I were to rate this book on the first three-quarters, it would have been a sure 5 star read.

But that ending.. I really really did not like that ending. Such a let down. Let's forget the fact that it broke my heart. Gah! All the pain. My main issue and I know this is a personal preference but I haaaaate long separations. My ratings will go down every time I come across one. In Out of Love's case, I get why the author felt like there needed to be a five year gap in order to advance the story. However, the introduction of another woman and a marriage, nope, I can't get onboard with that. It left such a bad taste in my mouth. I was ready to be done with this story.

As for the narration, Stefanie Kay did a great job bringing these characters to life. I loved her performance of Livy. Of course, I wish we had a male narrator for the Wylder and Jackson pov chapters but really it wasn't a big deal. I still liked it.

Overall, conflicted. That's the best way to describe myself after reading Out of Love by Jewel E Ann. I really wanted to like this book. And for the most part I did. There were just some factors that left me disappointed.

Absolutely Heart Wrecked!

Oh my heart!! This book hooked me from the start. It was an emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end. This is my first Jewel E. Ann book and she absolutely wrecked me. Slade was an intriguing character I definitely wanted to know more of. The best part was his dog, Jericho. I know this was a spinoff from the Jack & Jill Series, focusing on Livy, Jackson’s (Jude Day) daughter, so it was easy to keep up without having read the previous series. Out of Love was beautifully dark and tragic love story, full of suspenseful twists and turns you don’t want to miss. Slade and Livy are the perfect mix of darkness and light and just pull you in with their dynamic chemistry. They get put through the wringer and come out fighting, stronger on the other side, eventually getting their HEA. This story on audiobook was probably better than when read. Stephanie Kay did a phenomenal job narrating and telling the story seamlessly. She definitely brought the characters to life and I would definitely listen to more of her work.

hard to rate

the book for the most part was good, we'll written, interesting stories and characters, but I HATE how it ended. like really did not like it, and it kind of spoiled the book as a whole for me. this author always does some big dramatic stuff, and this book definitely has it, I just don't want to explain why I didn't like it, so I don't spoil the story. the narator was really good, no problems there.

LIVED for this one in audio!

I have to say, I adored this book but even more so in audio. Stefanie Kay gave it so much life and depth with the narrator that I just curled up and listened to it right through. I ignored the world and everything around me. I guess I really needed it at the time. Ann's books are always epic but this is the first time I have listened to one. It did not disappoint! Here is my thoughts on the book!
Once again, Jewel E Ann has blown me away with her amazing words and the concepts she comes up with. I have been a massive fan of the Jack & Jill series since it was released. They consumed me, but with Out of Love, you are given so much more depth into that series, not just Slade and Livy’s story. My heart ached. My mind spun. The twists blew me out of the water. I literally cannot come up with the adequate words to praise this book.
The concept between Slade and Livy with how they originally connect was absolutely spellbinding. My heart was in my throat as this relationship had amazing push and pull. Their banter had me giggling, swooning and so much more. Their chemistry sizzled as well. It was an intense passion these two both had for each other even with their unconventional upbringing. When things imploded, my heart raced, I had tears. There is just so much that happens in that span that I just was breathless. There were so many moments that had your eyes bulging and asking yourself if that really happened. It was absolutely everything!
Overall, this book is a perfect addition to the series. It gives you everything you want and more. Tidbits here and there that will open your eyes to things from the trilogy. I was so in love with these characters that I just wanted to hug them. Livy is such a free spirit that you cannot help but love her. Slade is beyond mysterious but you cannot help but love that aspect of him. All I can say is that this book is something so mind blowing that you cannot help but love every single word of it! If you loved the Jack & Jill series, you need this one in your life.

Emotional book packs a punch

I knew when I had the chance to listen to Out of Love, I had to take it. Apparently it's a spin off of the Jack and Jill series, but let me tell you that you absolutely do NOT need to read those books to appreciate this one. I expected this book to be good, but I got so much more. I got some laughs, some intense emotions, lies and secrets, and an undeniable chemistry between the characters.
The very beginning of this audiobook showed Livy during her earlier years. She likes boys and she likes to push her dad's buttons. He is overprotective to the max, but she just wants to live a normal high school type life. Unfortunately, her dad is having none of that. When she gets to college, she is no longer under his thumb and enjoying it. Times with her friends and roommates and surfing to the max, along with doing well in school. But once the mysterious guy with the German Sheppard that sits at the back of one of her classes catches her eye, she is intrigued. He's cold and calculated. Standoffish vibes. Doesn't really talk much, but his dog Jericho is the one that sets a bridge between the characters.

Slade lives in the firehouse right across the street from Livy. There are rumors about that house and Livy wants to find out more about it AND about Slade. Even when Livy slowly starts to break through Slade's barriers, they still have some sort of wall between them. Their relationship is a weird one, but you can feel their chemistry. It's there on the surface and I always wanted to know more about both of them. You could feel there were secrets and lies (if I had read the other books, I may have connected some dots, but like I said, it wasn't necessary). The more you learn about the characters, the more layers you peel away and you want to fight for them and see what could be. But with the past as it is, these two were destined to never be.

Out of Love had the romance, but it also had the mystery/suspense vibe with a fair amount of action going on. There are parts that will make you laugh (Livy loves to push buttons) and there are parts that are heartbreaking. Jewel E Ann gets in your head as the characters and makes you feel for them. The writing was beautifully done and the pacing was just right. And that Jericho stole the scenes he was in. That dog was totally a major part of this book and you can't deny him and the role he played.
The little bit I had issues with was the fast forward 5 years. That part actually hurt me and broke me. I just couldn't imagine the pain and emotions and lies between all the characters.
For the audio, I really enjoyed the narrator, but wondered why they didn't include a male narrator for Slade's parts and for her dad's parts. It didn't really make sense. Luckily, Stefanie Kay does a great job with her male voice that it didn't pull me out much. It was just a questionable move to have dual POV (heavy on Livy) but not have a male voice for the male POVs.
With all that said, I would give Out of Love somewhere between a 4 and a 5 star so I’m rounding that up to 5. It's well written. The characters and their journey moved at a comfortable speed, and the emotions you go through in this book will run you dry. Everything good I would look for is in this book. These characters and their love is something else. I may just go back and read the Jack and Jill series now.

Out Of Love Leaves You Breathless!!!

Out of Love is my first book I've listened to by this new to me author. I was intrigued by the synopsis and once I started listening from the beginning the ambience brings mystery and suspense and have me glued to my earbuds. The characters are well fleshed out, her writing style is captivating, world building descriptions and settings are vivid and well detailed and her story plot writing is compelling. The perplexity of Slades character is thought-provoking and he never slated from it throughout the whole book. Livy's strong-willed, beatnik, and unwavering personality was highly entertaining. A romantic suspense thriller with unexpected twists, sultry passion and cute banter weaved into the suspense. The epilogue brought the story to an explosive climax. I love how it ended.

Narrator Stephanie Kaye single naratiion of a dual pov story was good, however my preference for dual pov is two person performance cast. However, Stephanie is a talented narrator and did a wonderful performance of voicing the characters. Her tone shifted with the circumstances and her inflection changed to fit the characters. I enjoyed her intonation and found it exhilarating to listen to.

Awesome story and narration.

Amazing!

I absolutely loved this book! I’ve never read anything by Jewel E. Ann, but I’ve heard a lot about her so I figured I’d give her a shot and I’m so glad I did.

This book had everything- intrigue, mystery, swoony moments, HOT moments, heartbreak; you name it, it had it.

Livy was a great character. She was tenacious, free spirited, and very hard headed. I haven't read the Jack and Jill series (obviously, since this is my first JEA book, however I will be looking into it), but from what I've gathered she is very much like her dad. I liked how she kept poking at Slade until he was forced to accept her. There were some interactions with them in the beginning that had me cracking up.

Slade was great. I loved that he was so mysterious and that you knew what he was doing, but you also kind of didn't. I kept trying to figure out how it was going to all come together, but I could never quite put it together. Sometimes I still feel like I don't understand him and I mean that in a great way. He stayed mysterious pretty much the whole time, but I can totally see how Livy fell for him.

I thought I was going to die when I thought the book was over, but then I figured out that NOPE. There's still TWO HOURS left...and let me tell you...those last two hours were insane.

The book itself was fast paced, well written, and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I literally could not wait to be able to just sit and listen to this one. It was hard to put down, for sure.

Stefanie Kay is a PHENOMENAL narrator! I have never listened to anything she’s read before, but I will be adding her to my favorite narrators list and will be promptly looking up other books narrated by her. I liken her to Savannah Peachwood in her tone and youthfulness, but her inflections felt more natural. SP is one of my favorite, so I consider that a high praise in my book. I did have to bump her up to 1.1x speed, but that's just a personal preference.

Overall, 100% I recommend this book! And just as an FYI, you do not need to read any other books to understand this one. It was perfect just as it is.

Out of Love is an amazingly compelling story of tremendous love.

As a new to me author, Jewel E. Ann has blown me away and there is absolutely no doubt that I'll read more from this author.

Stefanie Kay brought the words penned by this author to full technicolour life which just made listening to this all the more amazing.

Gripped from front to back

4.5 Stars I thought this book was going one way and then SWERVE. I don't want to say much plot wise because most of the things that sucked me in and kept me hooked would spoil the book, but needless to say the back half of this book was GO GO GO and I could not believe how it shook out.

Love this book!

Jewel E Ann. That is all I have to see and I know I am in for a treat! This is one heck of a book! Livy is finally out of the clutches of her overprotective father. College is destined to be the place of freedom and of course, she is attracted the campus bad boy. Slade Wylder is quiet, and as a result, there are all kinds of rumors about him. Hearing he is a drug dealer and lives in a haunted house, does not deter the interested Livy, especially after her night time incident. And our love story begins. Ann takes us into a turn of events that is so twisted and crazy, I didn't see it coming! From taking care of Jerry the dog to making oatmeal cookies, things seem normal. Until it all starts to unravel. Truths and secrets revealed, the story really heats up and there was a period I was unsure if I wanted to even know how it was going to end. The worst was coming. Ann had me on the edge, stole my heart and invested my love into this couple. I truly fell for the couple, enjoyed Aunt Jessica but Jericho the dog was the real star for me. He would do anything to protect Livy. The perfect pup! This is an amazing listen and you do not want to miss it.

Stefanie Kay narrates this story and it's my first time listening to her. She is amazing!!! I love her voices. She easily can do both male and female voices and brings in all the emotions, sarcasm and love with her performance. I thought her interpretation of the characters was spot on and she created their world perfectly. I will definitely be watching for more by her.
