Publisher's Summary

From New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss comes a story of friendship, romance, and growing into a love that was always there.

Rachel knew exactly what turning thirty would be like. She had a plan, after all. First college, then a climb up the professional ladder. Love, marriage, children. All of it was on the schedule.

The cheap Hollywood apartment wasn’t on the list. Neither was the string of heartbreaks. Or the effect her mother’s cancer had on her career.

It’s hard to stay practical and on point when everything takes a left turn.

Enter Sebastian, the nerd across the street. The boy she defended when he couldn’t defend himself. The best friend she promised she’d marry if life didn’t go according to plan.

Not only is he successful, confident, and gorgeous, but he also still has their handwritten marriage contract.

No one goes through with childhood wedding pacts.

That’s crazy.

But their families might just be crazy enough to rent a hall and set a date. All Rachel and Sebastian have to do is fall in love.

Enjoyable book

Rachel and Sebastian were best friends in high school but haven’t seen each other for years. Rachel had high expectations of her life but things have not worked out as planned. They reconnect on Christmas and a fake engagement later, they really start to have more of a relationship. I enjoyed listening to this book and it is definitely worth the read.

Unlike other CD Reissbooks not particularly sexy

This is a sweet, tame story about 2 old childhood friends who get together as adults. The guy is wimpy as a preteen who adores his pretty neighbor and the she stands up for him against the bullies. She is less sure of herself as an adult but beco,es steady and more confident when she falls in love with her old best friend. Solid narration and a nice HEA.

Juvenile

I love Andi, she’s an auto click for me but not even Andi could save this book. I found it hard to connect with the characters in this book and wasn’t sold on the so called love between the MC or their HEA.

The hero was lame, and the heroine was weak and extremely juvenile going through with an engagement and wedding planning to satisfy her mother whom she assumed (emphasis on assumed) was ill -not on her death bed- just an assumption of illness. What happen to talking? That’s what a mature person would do.

Maybe I should have relaxed more into the story and just went with it but my logical self wouldn’t allow it. I kept thinking ok, what happens after you get her to admit she has cancer, if the goal is to give her that sense of comfort how will it go over when you call of the engagement or wedding like “haha, I knew your cancer was back. I was just kidding Seb and I are not really getting married” It was just a stupid plot.

The love was also extremely one sided, I would have loved to see more effort on Rachel’s part to sell me on her love for Sebastian but maybe that’s just me. Also, Brant or Brad (whatever Rachel ex’s name is) didn’t want a public apology from Seb for punching him because he didn’t want to seem like a pussy, but he disclosed the encounter in order to sabotage Seb and Rachel’s job so wasn’t that the same thing, didn’t he disclose he was a pussy to his colleagues who could also spread this little tidbit?

Don’t really know how this ended after Rachel got fired, my attention and interest in the book left the building 7 chapters prior so I just wrapped it up in a pretty virtual box and returned it.

5 beautiful stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Only Ever you was a sweet one! Totally not what we normally get from this author, but in a good way! Nice to see the sweet side occasionally.

This starts with your let’s get married when we are thirty if we are not with anyone else pact. It steers is in to a beautiful lasting romance and just plain soothes the soul. So good!

At the heart of it all is love

This was perfect for my mood. The sweet, uncomplicated romance. Well, not so uncomplicated but sweet and romantic nonetheless. He’s adored her from afar in his “dweeb”like manner whiles been his champion against the bullies. Friends. Adulthood has reversed the roles and added layers of confusion. At the heart of it all is love. Love of family. Love of career. And love for the one that makes you complete, that makes you a better you.

I thoroughly enjoyed the narrators and Brian Pallino has a very nice voice.

Childhood friends falling in love

I really enjoyed this audiobook. Andi Arndt is always fabulous and her voice is one I have come to truly love when listening to romance audiobooks. Brian Pallino is slowly becoming a voice I am starting to really enjoy. I think I might have to listen to every book he narrates. This is not my favorite read by CD Reiss. It was a bit lighthearted and easy to read. I'm a sucker for childhood friends who fall in love. Unfortunately I didn't really feel the love Sebastian and Rachel supposedly harbored for one another. I will say I felt more of the love from Sebastian than I did with Rachel. The fake engagement and wedding planning was a bit too much for me personally because it was all happening so fast and I thought the reason for the charade was doing too much. But listening to this one was fun and nice. I still enjoyed listening to this book.

Sweet with a Bit of Hotness

I love CD Reiss stories! This story is a bit different from some of her past work. It’s a friends to lovers and fake engagement story. There is a twist that makes this slow burn spicy in all the right ways. Andi Arndt is great as the screen writer, Rachel. It’s my first audio by Brian Pallino, and I love his deep silky voice as Sebastian.

Beautiful story

Wow what a beautiful story. Loveable characters and a slow burn that has you rooting for the wimp turned hunk to finally get his only love. CD Reiss knows how to do gritty and dark but she also is a Queen at romance and true love. Highly recommend
