Publisher's Summary

More than one million copies have been sold of this seminal book on investing in which legendary mutual-fund manager Peter Lynch explains the advantages that average investors have over professionals and how they can use these advantages to achieve financial success.

America’s most successful money manager tells how average investors can beat the pros by using what they know. According to Lynch, investment opportunities are everywhere. From the supermarket to the workplace, we encounter products and services all day long. By paying attention to the best ones, we can find companies in which to invest before the professional analysts discover them. When investors get in early, they can find the “tenbaggers”, the stocks that appreciate tenfold from the initial investment. A few tenbaggers will turn an average stock portfolio into a star performer.

Lynch offers easy-to-follow advice for sorting out the long shots from the no-shots by reviewing a company’s financial statements and knowing which numbers really count. He offers guidelines for investing in cyclical, turnaround, and fast-growing companies.

As long as you invest for the long term, Lynch says, your portfolio can reward you. This timeless advice has made One Up on Wall Street a number one best seller and a classic book of investment know-how.

Content is what you expect, but bad production

I've been waiting for this one for a while. Peter Lynch's books are considered part of the investing "must read" list (still waiting for Learn to Earn on unabridged audio btw). The abridged version has been out for a while and is probably on a lot of wishlists. When the unabridged version came out, I was excited to finally listen to it. The only thing that put me off was the bizarre cover. So I waited for a few reviews to ensure the content is the real deal. It is - I have the paperback as well.

Bottom line is that the content is good and what you are expecting but the audiobook production is really strange. Somehow a company called Noble Publishers or "Fireside" seems to have obtained the audiobook rights and has not really invested in the audiobook production. I'm not sure if Peter Lynch or someone else gave up the rights but the production for such a classic book could have been better. Unfortunately, the narrator sounds like one of those robotic "text-to-speech" voices which you can now automatically listen to on articles. Zero nuance or intonation.

If, like me, you are looking for the content on audio, you will be satisfied but if you are expecting a half decent audiobook production that you get nowadays, you will be disappointed. I hope Peter Lynch considers giving the rights to a publisher who will invest a little in the production to reproduce the audiobook (heck, I'd be interested if anyone is asking). That said, and to be fair, I'm guessing something happened with the audiobook rights, which is why the production is so bad.

This is the full version of the book.

There are some shorter versions of this book in Audible but this seems to be the best and full version.

Narrator is fine

Glad I wasn't deterred from downloading this book due to complaints about the narrator. I've struggled thrown far, far worse and still enjoyed the book.
Lynch's all time classic is fantastic and a must read for any value investor.

Excellent philosophical look at investing.

Even though I didn't gain actionable information to help this newbie find companies worth investing in, the mindset ideas he reinforces are to me extremely valuable.

Great Book, Unbearable Narrator

This is a classic in investing. If you're not new to the stock market, perhaps you won't learn many new concepts, but Peter Lynch's story and dry wit will likely leave you engaged and inspired. He will tell you why a "regular" person can be a good investor, even without index-funding.

However, I'm not sure I can finish this book because the narrator. I'm sorry to be blunt, but the narrator mumbles certain syllables, changes cadence strangely in the middle of the word or sentence, and truly does not have the right voice for this job.

A must read for beginner investors and a good refresh for experienced investors

This book is amazing and I will gift it to many friends. My 3 star overall is only that i have been investing and running a fund for a long time, and I have read countless literature on the topic. This book did not provide any new insights but it was a refreshing read with good reminders and absolute must for novice investors.

Great explanation of the benefits investing has over trading and revealing some of Peter Lynch’s techniques to success
