About this listen

The greatest scientific challenge of our age wasn't to enable time travel, it was to prevent it. The laws of physics had turned out to be idiotic, erecting no barriers to hopping time. In fact, they make it hard to avoid. I'm in the business of preserving the timeline - making sure the world sticks to the sacred rule of One Second per Second, and that history unfolds according to plan. The problem is, there is no plan until I make it.

I gave this two stars because, to the author’s credit, it’s well written and I did manage to listen to it all, somehow. However, the underlying premise is just so far-fetched that no amount of clever storytelling could make it believable or engaging for me.

The story revolves around mixing chemicals that can supposedly alter the speed of time, and it plays loosely with timelines — but without any convincing scientific foundation. It often becomes confusing, especially when dealing with the usual paradoxes and inconsistencies that come with time travel. Let’s just say causality violations are the least of this storylines holes.

If you enjoy hard science fiction that’s at least somewhat grounded in scientific plausibility, this probably isn’t for you. While I respect the creativity behind the idea, the execution left me frustrated and unconvinced.

Not for me.

A good solid time travel story. nothing revolutionary or different but good characters, interesting plot, and a happy ending. The narrator was a bit over dramatic in places but I got used to his style and it did not impact my enjoying of the book.

Time travel fun
