About this listen

Richard Dawkins, author of The God Delusion and a life-long committed Darwinist, abridges and reads this special audio version of Charles Darwin's famous book. A literally world-changing book, Darwin put forward the anti-religious and scientific idea that humans in fact evolved over millions of generations from animals, starting with fish, all the way up through the ranks to apes, then to our current form.

Dawkin's passion for his subject and hero are clear and exciting for listeners, who, whatever their religious or scientific views, will be intrigued and captivated by this involving production of arguably one of the most important books of all time.

Just a wonderful experience. To see back in time and understand how ground breaking and incredible the theory of evolution was, and is.

Great book narrated in an easy listening by Richard Dawkins. It describes how it all fits together in a gargantuan leap of human logic predicting genetics centuries before the discovery of the double helix.

One of the greatest achievements of human thought.

I always imagined this book being famous for being so pivotal the religious debate and how science was viewed

I now imagine that the book would be actually considered more important if the associations with that debate didn't steal so much of the focus.

What I didn't understand is that this book painstakingly and thoroughly laid a new foundation for the entire science of biology, which in a sense redefined our place in the universe.
So many mysteries contemplated over the ages explainable with such simple, clear rules.

It's hard to put into words how it's so much more than just the concept of evolution and how much clarity his observations and deductions seem to really create. It's an incredible pivotal and rare moment in history - so many profound ideas bottled up and investigated over a lifetime in such detail and finally let loose when there was no more option to hide. There can't be many cases where revolutionary ideas that most would want you tell the world straight away, would be to be expanded and repressed for so long, for fear of repercussions. The result is so comprehensive and thorough that it's hard to really draw parallels.

On top of that, he's an incredible writer and holds his ground with the greatest philosophers, which is really what this work feels like - a treatise of a great philosopher, taking the potential of human thoughts to new levels.

Somehow Underrated

Darwin's remarkable, careful observations have changed the world.
Free from the belief that there was a hand that controls all- Darwin has opened our eyes to the true wonder of the forces of nature really are.

Read beautifully by Dawkins- this audiobook is a classic.
