About this listen

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Stevie Cameron’s investigative tour de force about one of North America's most prolific serial killers—now widely regarded as a true crime classic.

Verteran investigative journalist Stevie Cameron first began following the story of missing women in 1998, when the odd newspaper piece appeared chronicling the disappearances of drug-addicted sex trade workers from Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside. It was not until February 2002 that pig farmer Robert William Pickton would be arrested, and 2008 before he was found guilty, on six counts of second-degree murder. These counts were appealed and in 2010, the Supreme Court of Canada rendered its conclusion. The guilty verdict was upheld, and finally this unprecedented tale of true crime could be told.

Covering the case of one of North America's most prolific serial killers gave Stevie Cameron access not only to the story as it unfolded over many years in two British Columbia courthouses, but also to information unknown to the police - and not in the transcripts of their interviews with Pickton - such as from Pickton's long-time best friend, Lisa Yelds, and from several women who survived terrifying encounters with him. Cameron uncovers what was behind law enforcement's refusal to believe that a serial killer was at work.

Always Astonishing What People are Capable Of

It’s horrible when you think about what humans do to each other and this book is all about that. Not just horrendous ends but apathy and indifference, disfunction and callousness towards all be they friend, family or stranger

Disturbing content, engrossing story

I had never heard of this case and when I clicked Buy I hadn't actually read the synopsis nor taken note of how long the book is. But it didn't take long to get the gist of this case and quickly the hours melted away!

What a story! It could easily be made into a TV series or movie.

I think this is the best book I've ever listened to out of the 200 titles I have listened to in total.

I will also be buying the hardcopy of 768 pages! A tale worth paying for twice I reckon!

Highly recommended and easy to follow with great back-stories that really add context to the overall story and the grisly outcomes of these missing women.

Excellent!

The author has spared no detail in the relating of this true horror account. The narrator does a great job telling it with sensitivity. The petty jealousies of some VPD members and the fallout from that is beyond belief.

Couldn't be more thoroughly researched and written

even though I already know the story, this is not that easy to follow I just don't thing uts written as well as it could have been.

not great

Difficult to follow as the narrative haphazardly changes chronology with no clear purpose. Bloated with redundancies. The repetition leaves you wondering if you'd already been over this part as it winds backwards to a barely specified point in time in order to fill in some context that is still not clearly established. Maybe the next chapter will start moving with intent I kept thinking until I gave up mid chapter 12.

Clumsy
