About this listen

I've been in love with Jordan Mitchell since the moment I saw him.

He's smart, handsome, and even funny when he feels like it. He excels at everything; whatever he touches turns to gold. He can't do anything wrong.

When our parents got married and merged our broken families, I suddenly had a rival I could never compete with. And a heart-throb I could never be with. And I hate him for it. He doesn't even see me.

Until one summer break . . . We're alone in our parents' mountain house. All we do is swim, sunbathe, and fight. And I'd rather be kissing him. Soon enough, the line between hate and attraction is too blurry to see.

It turns out that he's just as messed up as me. And his sculpted body attracts me more than ever. With each day we spend holed up in the mountains, it gets harder to resist him. If I don't do something, I might burst.

But the looming threat of destroying our family for a cheap thrill holds me back. There couldn't be a happy ending to our story. And all my choices are wrong. For once, I'm going to need him to be in charge of what happens next.

Contains mature themes.

On Thin Ice is a beautifully written, emotionally intense story that pulled me in from the beginning. Asher and Jordan were both incredibly well-crafted characters, and I loved them individually as well as together but I was drawn to Asher and really felt sad for him as it came across as though their parents gave all their attention and support to Jordan. I felt that Asher was sidelined a great deal by their parents so I felt a lot of empathy for him. Their journey was raw, heartfelt, and full of emotion and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves intense, character-driven romance

13 yo Asher Sullivan is completely blindsided when his divorced mom introduces him to her new man and his son, Jordan Mitchell. Their new parents expect them to be instant brothers but, while Asher is initially keen, Jordan treats him with complete indifference, only occasionally doling out critical advice. Fast-forward a few years with both adult men now on the Arctic Titans team at Northwood U. Asher has always been drawn to Jordan but is still despairing at the minimal interactions he has with him. Alone at the family holiday house for the summer, Asher learns that Jordan has also been drawn to Asher but as the slightly older, more responsible step-brother, he’s never allowed himself to show it—until now. It’s an explosive summer but can they ever let their parents or the rest of the world know how they feel?

I found this interesting but I felt like this was a sports romance in name only, there was no game play and very little interaction with the rest of the team. While Asher had come out years ago, Jordan was still in the closet, so things were super-complicated. Their parents expected them to act as brothers, but neither Asher nor Jordan ever acted or felt they were, so it didn’t feel taboo. Given how little positive interactions the two had had over the years, I think it was a tough sell that they would still harbour feelings for each other—their communications were passive-aggressive or neutral at best. Putting all that aside, it was a compelling story, especially when they were joined at the summer house by their parents and the guys had to sneak around. 🎧 Voice actor Curtis Michael Holland did a great job in the audio, he captured both men perfectly!

Step-brothers in love!
