Olivia Colman reads E. Nesbit's classic novel. The Railway Children is a masterpiece of children's fiction. It wonderfully evokes a bygone age and is packed with fun, excitement and adventure.

When their father goes away unexpectedly, Roberta (Bobbie), Peter and Phyllis have to move from London to a cottage in the countryside. At the local station they make friends with the porter, Perks, and spend their time waving to the passengers on the trains. The Golden Age

E. Nesbit's books are a part of the golden age of children's literature. Elegant, simple writing. Meaningful stories that touch in some way the notion of the Fable.

Great story spoiled by it being abridgded

Lovely to hear Olivia Coleman but not enough to consider a wonderful book too heavily discounted by being abridged. Not enough of the story to build up suspense. Disappointing.

Delightful Story, beautifully read.

I have SO enjoyed listening to this again. I remember my father reading it to me and I read it to my daughter. What a delight to listen to it again.

Warning - very abridged!

I was so disappointed because I didn’t realize it was abridged and by a great deal. Olivia Coleman’s narration is lovely but the story is about 1/6 th of the book and is not credible.

Takes me back to my childhood.

A wonderful story of a different life. Olivia Coleman reads so well. It was like a bedtime story. Definitely one for the granddaughters.

Abridged version

I was disappointed to find on listening that this was an abridged (1 hour) version - it wasn’t clearly advertised as such on Amazon. I still cried at “Daddy, oh my Daddy!” though...

Not the complete story

Huge chunks of the original story is missing from this audiobook. Quite disappointing. However, what there is of it is read beautifully by Olivia Coleman.
