Story
The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a fable that reshapes modern fantasy: moving, terrifying and elegiac - as pure as a dream, as delicate as a butterfly's wing, as dangerous as a knife in the dark - from storytelling genius Neil Gaiman. It's about memory and magic and survival, about the power of stories and the darkness inside each of us. It began for our narrator forty years ago when the family lodger stole their car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed.

Publisher's Summary
Odd's luck has been bad so far. He lost his father on a Viking expedition, his foot was crushed beneath a tree and the winter seems to be going on forever. But when Odd flees to the woods and releases a trapped bear, his luck begins to change.
The eagle, bear and fox he encounters reveal they're actually Norse gods trapped in animal form by the evil frost giants who have conquered Asgard, the city of the gods....
Can a 12-year-old boy reclaim Thor's hammer, outwit the frost giants and release the gods? With Neil Gaiman's wit and style, this story transcends the everyday and becomes a humorous, rich and layered tale of a life lived courageously.

A short story gift from a fantasy genius.
What a lovely little gem. A perfect listen for adults and kids.
Neil Gaiman takes you into a wonderful imaginative adventure and one more time shows that he's an artist in the way he layers his writing... there are just so many hidden meanings in Odd's story. It is interesting, fun and beautiful.
The only thing is that you really need to love the author's style to spend a whole credit or money on such a short book. From a Gaiman addict: it was well worth it.
Narration is perfect. Having book well read by its creator is a simple pleasure.

Definitely what I was expecting, but a really nice short story. Odd was a nice character, and I really liked Neil's use of mythology throughout this story, and how he included the gods without them being overpowering. Would recommend if on discount only, not for a credit.

Do not mistake that this audio book is just for children, if you do you would be so very wrong and miss out on another of Neil's great books. Though not all that long, it is highly entertaining, funny at times and where needed accurate for a book of fiction. I really truely, highly and totally recommend this Audio Book without any reservations whatsoever. Just sit back With the grandkids or kids and let Young and Old alike really enjoy.
