Die Novelle erzählt die Geschichte von Fiekchen, einer Träumerin. Der Altan war tief verschneit, Alles weiß übertüncht, darüber ein Himmel so tiefblau, man hätte ihn für Sommer halten können. Fiekchen saß am Fenster nachdenklich wie jetzt oft. In dem Garten stritten sich die Krähen um den höchsten Platz, auf einer mächtigen Pappel; es war ein Gekreisch und ein Gedräng' und dann saß wieder eine einsam auf der höchsten Spitze. Fiekchen hatte ihre Gedanken dabei; sie merkte nicht, wie die Tür sich öffnete, schrak zusammen als ein Schritt sich näherte.
