About this listen

Mitch Rapp – ‘the best hero the thriller genre has to offer’ (The Real Book Spy) – confronts a very different kind of killer in this explosive addition to Vince Flynn’s #1 New York Times bestselling series, written by Kyle Mills.

With President Anthony Cook convinced that Mitch Rapp poses a mortal threat to him, CIA Director Irene Kennedy is forced to construct a truce between the two men. The terms are simple: Rapp agrees to leave the country and stay in plain sight for as long as Cook controls the White House. In exchange, the administration agrees not to make any moves against him.

This fragile détente holds until Cook’s power-hungry security adviser convinces him that Rapp has no intention of honouring their agreement. In an effort to put him on the defensive, they leak the true identity of his partner, Claudia Gould. As Rapp races to neutralize the enemies organizing against her, he discovers that a new generation of assassins is on her trail. A killer known to intelligence agencies only as Legion.

The shadowy group has created a business model based on double-blind secrecy. Neither the killer nor the client knows the other’s identity. Because of this, Legion can’t be called off nor can they afford to fail. No matter how long it takes – weeks, months, years – they won’t stand down until their target is dead. Faced with the seemingly impossible task of finding and stopping Legion, Rapp and his people must close ranks against a world that has turned on them.

For the first time in the Mitch Rapp series I found myself struggling go get through this book. The plot was ok but quite predictable. Don't get wrong Kyle Mills has done an admirable job carrying the torch since Vince Flynn sadly passed away but his entries lack the slow burning complex plot lines of the earlier books. I couldn't even tell you what happened in the last two books I just don't remember wheras the first 10 or so books are burned into me. All in all youll be entertained by this book but unfortunately each subsequent entry in the series seems to fade a little more. George Guidall really carries this book and if it weren't for his absolute excellent narration I don't know whether I could have finished it. Sorry Kyle.

Decent but that's it.

This isn’t my 1st Mitch Rapp audiobook, but I think it will be my last.
The narration was stilted and he sounded like my dad after a few glasses of red wine, words being mumbled together etc.
As for content, I reckon the book was too short, there were still things that had to be tidied up.
Was the hit on the President called off, what happened to the Legion team?
Did Irene go back to the CIA and get rid of the waste of space director or, did she hook up with the trillionaire?
So many things.

Some things will never be the same

The story was good but found it painful listening to the narration. Honestly I tried adjusting the speed but that didn’t even work. He sounded out of breath or intoxicated jerkily reading it off. I found this book frustrating to get through and it took many attempts to finish it.

Disappointing narration
