Exquisitely crafted historical mystery

This is the 5th Mary Russell Book by Laurie R. King. If you haven't read this series, I would highly recommend it. Mary Russell is the much younger apprentice and subsequent partner of Sherlock Holmes. Although Holmes is a main character, these books bring a totally different perspective to the genre. This particular book is set early in Mary's life and details a short visit to post-WWI Palestine. It is one of my favourite books and vital to read before Justice Hall, the 6th book. Although this book could be read as a stand-alone novel, I would recommend reading the series in order (first book is The Beekeepers Apprentice), as the development of Russell and Holmes relationship over the years is fascinating. All of the books in this series are excellent. This one is well read by Jenny Sterlin.
