Publisher's Summary

It’s the $10 million heist you’ve never heard of. In a matter of months, dozens of truckloads disappeared from American highways. But what were they carrying? Nuts.

Marc Fennell takes you into a rabbit hole of crime syndicates, stolen identities and private investigators that will change the way you think about food forever. Eighty per cent of the world’s almonds are grown in the heart of California, but this journey will take you to Italy, the Spanish coast, deep under the earth and even into space.

Unexpectedly fascinating

Marc Fennell has written an entertaining 'crime thriller' about the theft of an awful lot of nuts in California. Along the way, often via guests who are either people involved in the case or experts, he tells us a lot about the food industry, especially the complex web by which food is transported to local cities, and to ports from which it can be exported overseas. I listened to Marc's previous book It Burns and enjoyed that too.

Gripping,

This is about so much more than just a great heist - though it's a hell of a premise. Marc Fennell is as always empathetic, charming and a delight to listen to. He is completely in control of his craft here. There are some fantastic insights into our food chain (I'll never look at olive oil, or almonds for that matter the same way again). Brilliant stuff.

just gets more and more interesting

I find myself telling people how good this series is and they just stare at me. Yep, this story starts with a nut heist and goes so many unexpectedly interesting places. Poverty, fertility, the environment, the mafia,... etc, etc. Thanks Marc and team for a terrific story wonderfully told.

Brilliant, empathetic and gripping

As always, brilliant work by Marc. Characteristic of his work it’s a gripping piece of well researched journalism that also focuses on the people, their very human motivations and the interconnectedness of things we take for granted.

Eye opener!

Music was a bit over the top, but otherwise an enjoyable, informative listen.
