About this listen

Xander

Big City is supposedly the place where dreams come true. As someone just trying to live my life, I can tell you it’s more like a recurring nightmare where dreams get c*ckblocked at every turn.

Especially if you’re a supervillain like me.

The irony is that I have zero powers, despite coming from purebred villain stock, but try telling that to Big City’s beloved hero, Captain Masculine.

This himbo is ruining my research, and if his firepower doesn’t kill me, the sight of him in Lycra surely will. Luckily—or unluckily, in my opinion—my bestie just signed me up for the Bangers dating app and found my perfect match.

If this isn’t the start of my villain arc, I don’t know what is.

Butch

It’s hard feeling like I have to wear a mask every day—that the only value I bring to the table is the sparkling image others have created for me.

Such is the life of being Captain Masculine, Big City’s greatest superhero. This is the existence I was destined for, and I will gladly defend this city against every threat to its people.

Except Doctor Antihero.

I’ve seen countless villains come and go, but something about Antihero intrigues me more than the usual hero-villain encounters should.

It’s because of him that I impulsively signed up for a dating app, hoping a meaningless fling with a local normie will help get my head back in the game. The truth is, what I really want is someone who sees me—the man behind the mask.

But that’s a luxury no superhero can afford.

Not All Himbos Wear Capes is an MM romance between a superhero and a villain. This is not your kid’s superhero book. This is Sin City and The Boys having a love child with extra spicy Spideypool and is meant for 18+ adults who can handle such things.

The Villainous Things series contains standalone books (each with HEAs) that feature interconnected characters and an overarching plot.

Enjoyed this as something totally different. Someone else said ‘Like Boys but they’re fat’ and that is the best description.

Wasn’t really a fan of the voices. It took me a few attempts to get through the first chapters, but it was worth it

Really fun and spicy

Now this was funny. And hot. Hero x villian, dom sub elements, secret identities etc. It had dark elements (the world has supervillains, of course there are dark elements) but the funny parts didn't get suffocated by them. Laughed out loud a lot. I've already picked up the next one in the series. Also I've only ever heard John Solo do omegaverse titles before, so hearing him do something more conventional was interesting - he did a great job. First time listening to Philip Alces ever, I liked his style a lot.

Strong opening to a fun series

Butch Holt (aka Captain Masculine) is Big City’s superhero poster boy, but behind the Teflon façade, Butch is sick of the murders he must commit to protect Big City from its supervillains. The truth is that Butch is an indentured slave to Big City’s wealthiest billionaire, and he’s afraid to step out of line. Zander (aka Dr. Antihero) also has supe lineage, having been born into the notorious supervillain Suarez family who have nothing but contempt for his lack of superpowers. Both men are expected to give unconditional loyalty to their hellish families, but falling for each other just might give them the (super) strength to choose a more loving path.

This book pleasantly surprised me. I was expecting a light, funny tone, but the parental contempt, the treatment of superheroes, the violent combat, and the deaths gave this a much richer storyline and darker tone. There are a couple of thoroughly good people, but most are manipulative or immoral. I really liked Zander and Butch (who are bad with some good intentions) and the steamy BDSM themes they explored. I also thought the world-building was fascinating, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series! 🎧 Veteran voice actors John Solo (as eager himbo Butch) and Philip Alces (as world-weary superbrain Xander) both gave excellent narrative performances—great choices for these two characters!

Dark and super-steamy superhero romance!

The narrators brought so much life to the characters and made it so much funnier! The story was also great! Can't wait to listen to the next book :)

Excellent narration
