Story
Since 1945, the US has justified numerous wars, interventions, and military build-ups based on the pretext of the Russian Red Menace, even after the Soviet Union collapsed at the end of 1991 and Russia stopped being Red. In fact, the two biggest post-war American conflicts, the Korean and Vietnam wars, were not, as has been frequently claimed, about stopping Soviet aggression or even influence. And now the specter of a Russian Menace has been raised again in the wake of Donald Trump's victory.

Story
The story of Eastern Europe is one of successes and failures, competing interests, and the rise and fall of states and empires. The ancient Greek and Roman empires knew the importance of Eastern Europe for trade and settlement. The medieval period would see some of the greatest empires of European history, like Kievan Rus, the Bulgarian Empire, Serbia, and the German Crusader states. By the early modern period, these great states would be replaced by Russia, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Ottoman Empire.

America is in a new Cold War with Russia even more dangerous than the one the world barely survived in the 20th century. All of this is exacerbated by Washington’s war-like demonizing of the Kremlin leadership and by Russiagate’s unprecedented allegations. US mainstream media accounts are highly selective and seriously misleading. American “disinformation”, not only Russian, is a growing peril.

Publisher's Summary
WITH SUBSTANTIAL MATERIAL NOT INCLUDED IN THE DOCUMENTARY
Academy Award winner Oliver Stone was able to secure what journalists, news organizations, and even other world leaders have long coveted: extended, unprecedented access to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Putin Interviews are culled from more than a dozen interviews with Putin over a two-year span—never before has the Russian leader spoken in such depth or at such length with a Western interviewer. No topics are off limits in the interviews, which first occurred during Stone’s trips to meet with NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden in Moscow and most recently after the election of President Donald Trump.
Prodded by Stone, Putin discusses relations between the United States and Russia, allegations of interference in the US election, and Russia’s involvement with conflicts in Syria, Ukraine, and elsewhere across the globe. Putin speaks about his rise to power and details his relationships with Presidents Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama, and Trump. The exchanges are personal, provocative, and at times surreal. At one point, Stone asks, “Why did Russia hack the election?”; at another, Stone introduces him to Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 Cold War satire Dr. Strangelove, which the two watch together.
Stone has interviewed controversial world leaders before, including Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and Benjamin Netanyahu. But The Putin Interviews, in its unmediated access to one of the most enigmatic and powerful men in the world, can only be compared to the series of conversations between David Frost and Richard Nixon we now refer to as “The Nixon Interviews” of 1977.
The book will also contain references and sources that give readers a deeper understanding of the topics covered in the interviews and make for a more robust reading experience.

Putin's Russia - Questions answered
I did not know what to expect from yet another "book" about Russia and its enigmatic leader Mr Vladimir Putin. Usually authors forgive their own (USA for every lie, half truth and betrayal on the world stage) and condemn their "enemys tactics" as deplorable, underhanded and completely unjustified. THIS is NOT one of those books! Oliver Stone visits Russia on several occassions, having first hand interviews with Mr Putin (how many world leaders would openly permit such a thing?)
Mr Stone is respectful and yet does not pull punches when asking the hard hitting questions of Mr Putin. In response Mr Putin is open handed (where he can be), seems honest in his responses (Fact checkers throughout the interview confirm his recollections and facts cited as 95% accurate), is respectful of other world leaders, refusing to be drawn in to negative commentary or speculation and is passionately supportive of Russia and its people.
By contrast the USA - my how it has grown its vassal states throughout Europe and the Americas. It does seem to solely be a war economy, it admits to mass surveillance of its own population (Hoover to today as revealed by Snowdon), should be declared bankrupt as its deficit is eyewateringly high and likely unserviceable for the next century and makes agreements that it has no intention of ever keeping. (See Not one inch by M.E.Sarotte)
BUT the US has to hate on someone to keep the fear imbalance revved up.
Excellent audio book, a real eye opener on many issues.
Thanks to Mr Stone for seeking to make this book and for Mr Putin agreeing to be interviewed on so many occasions.

Disappointing but interesting in parts
The female American voice making comments throughout was very irritating, particularly in stating whether Putin is correct or otherwise in statements about the Russian economy. The Americans always have to think they know best about everything. Recent events have highlighted that they have in fact very few clues about Russian life. I respect Oliver Stone's efforts in producing the interviews.
