I really enjoy the characters and story line as well as the narration/performance. I’m glad there are a few more in this series. Thanks for writing these, they are truly enjoyable.

Wonderful. Thank you.

It was only after finishing the book and reading the acknowledgements that I realised this was book four in the Ben Harper series. Honestly, that explained a lot—because as a standalone, it just didn’t work for me. I found the story dull and hard to follow. Entire stretches felt bogged down in mundane detail—conversations about cake, people forgetting to close doors—while the actual mystery barely held my attention. By the time the killer was revealed, my reaction was more “wait, who?” than “wow.” It was anticlimactic and unsatisfying. Maybe fans of the series will get more out of it, but as someone coming in fresh, I was just not enjoying the experience.
