The story was engaging from start to finish. I really enjoyed the characters and the plotting. However, it was difficult to see past the reading, which sounded like a robot. The reader placed emphasis at regular intervals, often distorting the tone or meaning of a sentence. Sometimes the effect is unintentionally comical, like when a casual conversation is being read as though it’s a thrilling action sequence, and sometimes a line that should be a cool retort in a tense situation is delivered as though in earnest. It’s the sort of garbled reading you’d expect from Siri, not from a real life person.
