Publisher's Summary

This one.

Nate doesn’t want to listen. He’s between missions and just wants to relax, not to travel hundreds of miles and hunt for the driver of the car that hit someone he doesn’t even know.

But ignoring the call is not an option.

This one.

What Nate had hoped would be a simple mission turns into something much more sinister, when he discovers a wide-reaching evil, festering in a small Northern California town. To confront it, he will need all the skills he’s learned working in the shadow world.

Nate takes the road less traveled..

This is a wonderful spinoff from Brett Battles's Jonathan Quinn series. The protagonist in this new series is Jonathan's partner Nate.
With the start of this book we find Nate disabling and binding a group of men who have been robbing quick mart stores. He's not getting paid for this, he's a vigilante. Who tells him who needs defending ? His murdered girlfriend Liz of course. He knows when he hears her it's just his subconscious. He thinks.
Nate still has his day job but Liz sends him on a road trip. A teenage girl has been hit by a car. Everyone says it's an accident. Liz "tells " Nate that it's not.
His mission requires using all his skills and toys and a few friends he picked up while working with Quinn. Nate uncovers many secrets and too many wealthy men willing to take advantage of young women desperate for money.
Lots of internal thought processes and intricate planning.
Zach Villa does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

what a snoozer

Brett you were on prosaic for this one. I had trouble finishing this. and the narrator he needs some energy pills. The first half was so slow I almost quit. After reading all the Jonathan Quinn stories with Nate as his apprentice I was stoked to read all about Nate as a solo. cleaner, but what a let down. Hope this was an aberration and Nate comes back with some vigor. The story was mediocre with Nate as a vigilante. ok , and his planning and details were good , but the narrator's voice made him sound so dull and lifeless. please get Scott Btick back And liven Nate up. Janice

Outstanding!

Brett Battles is another author who is consistently superb. This is his first novel with Jonathan Quinn's partner Nate as the lead character. Nate continues to grieve the death of his girlfriend Liz (who was also Quinn's sister). But in his mind she is still with him and speaks to him gives him assignments to right specific wrongs. Nate's relationship with Quinn remains rocky due to a disagreement concerning how to deal with Liz's killer. NIGHT MAN is just the type of outstanding novel that make Battles a must-read author. Zach Villa's narration is stellar.

Just Enough

Just enough tech stuff to make the story interesting. Just enough super hero stuff so we can cheer for the good guy. Just enough softhearted stuff to make the hero lovable. Just enough plot twists to keep us from predicting what comes next.

Absolutely Positively Amazing!

Fantastic! I’m a huge fan of anything Mr. Battles puts out and have found his work to be consistently great, but this was exceptionally well done. Mr. Villa does nothing less than a superb job at being the voice of Nate, and this makes all the difference. If I were to find fault with anything I’d say that it was just too short, ended too soon...should have been a 20 hour book...because I want more!
Bravo Mr. Battles and Mr. Villa!

Best of Battles' Efforts so far.

Brett Battles surprises with this stand alone story. Nate is not Quinn, but he rises to the challenge.

Great narrator!

The story is good, but it is the great narration skill that really helps to bring the book alive.

Dragged on and on and on.

Started out very interestingly. I was quite excited about the book. But then it dragged on and on and on. So monotonous! In addition, the narration was just OK. Disappointing.
