Publisher's Summary

Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and the Congressional Gold Medal, Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel offers an unforgettable account of Hitler's horrific reign of terror in Night. This definitive edition features a new translation from the original French by Wiesel's wife and frequent translator, Marion Wiesel.

Night is an unmistakably autobiographical account of the author's own gruesome experiences in Nazi Germany's death camps. Told through the eyes of 14-year-old Eliezer, the tragic fate of the Jews from the little town of Sighet unfolds with a heart-wrenching inevitability. Even as they are stuffed into cattle cars bound for Auschwitz, the townspeople refuse to believe rumors of anti-Semitic atrocities. Not until they are marched toward the blazing crematory at the camp's "reception center" does the terrible truth sink in.

Recounting the evils at Auschwitz and Buchenwald, Wiesel's enduring classic of Holocaust literature raises questions of continuing significance for all future generations: How could man commit these horrors, and could such an evil ever be repeated?

Critic Reviews

"Elie Wiesel’s memoir of life in the Nazi death camps has been reissued with a new translation by Wiesel’s wife, Marion. Read by George Guidall, this new edition is a brilliant and haunting reminder of these horrific crimes, as well as a testament to Wiesel’s faith and resilience. Guidall is the ideal reader, and gives yet another masterful performance. Every word Guidall utters reminds the listener of the fear, the suffering, and the hatred Wiesel witnessed and experienced as he drew upon his every instinct to fight for survival. The audio edition also contains a new preface by Wiesel, as well as Guidall’s performance of Wiesel’s Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech. NIGHT is already a classic, and this audio edition is a superb complement to the text. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award." (AudioFile magazine)

"[A] slim volume of terrifying power." (The New York Times

Harrowing - A stark reminder of cruelty and strength

Truly harrowing. You‘ll all know what happened at the concentration camps but with this story and narrator, you feel like you’re there.

I’ll never forget this book.

It’s almost unbearable to think that this happened and similar things are happening to this day.

It’s emotional and educational. I’m amazed of the strength shown by Elie and his fallen friends during those times. He is a testament to the human spirit and it’s ability to “go on” under unbelievable circumstances.

I feel grateful after listening to it and I can say it’s changed me.

Listener beware - it’s descriptive and puts you there with him. You can almost smell the smoke.

Harrowing read

This book was incredibly moving. It made me think a lot about what my own Grandfather must have endured as a POW, something he would never discuss. A glimpse into the hell they all endured.

An account that must be heard!

Just like Primo Levi's If This Is a Man and Viktor Frank's Man's Search for Meaning, this is an account that must be heard. Impossible to grasp by anyone who hasn't experienced it directly, the holocaust remains a pivotal point in man's evolution, potentially marking its devaluation point, as ideas of the mind managed to drive humans to commit unfathomable atrocities in an industrial scale over their fellow humans. These accounts remind us how far we can go when we recognise our neighbour as The Other...

A masterpiece

Best book I’ve read on the Holocaust subject till this point. Capable of transmitting an astonishing level of reality about the very sad events experienced by the author!

My favourite book.

The narrator brought Ellie Wiesel's story to life. His performance was so realistic. I too want to know where our Heavenly Father is. If He is as almighty, how can His children suffer like this?

Raw, painful, powerful

Though this book is now many years old, the story still rings true of the limits of human cruelty but also the human ability to resist and show resilience in the face is such evil. This is a fantastic, profound book that I feel everyone should read. We move towards a positive future when we honor the past

Harrowing

Only in recent years have I understood more clearly the ever near presence and possibility of evil within a person. That all of us are only a moment away from the possibility of doing what was done in this book , from the response of the perpetrators or as the victims. The story took me right there. Challenging my responses.

Oh but for the Grace of God go I.

In my mid 50s now, I was brought up knowing and being educated about the holocaust. Hard to believe this generation isn’t taught the same.

Thankful for the additional readings at the end of the book. I will make sure my sons and daughters read it.

There is Hope - in Christ - it will come to pass. Hang on.
