Publisher's Summary

Now available for the first time in audiobook format, Necroscope III: The Source is the third installment in the Necroscope series by horror master Brian Lumley. This story traces the battle between Harry Keogh and the horrifying Vamphyri on their home ground, an alien landscape of looming towers, impossible cliffs, and ravenous vampire-beasts.

Russia's Ural Mountains hide a deadly secret: a supernatural portal to the country of the vampires. Soviet scientists and ESP-powered spies, in a secret military base, study the portal - and the powerfully evil creatures that emerge from it, intent on ravaging mankind.

When Jazz Simmons, a British agent sent to infiltrate the base, is captured by the KGB espionage squad and forced through the portal, his last message tells Harry Keogh, the Necroscope, that the vampires are preparing for a mass invasion.

Harry has only one option - to strike first. He must carry the human-vampire war to the vampire's own lands. But his strongest psychic power will be useless there. What good is the power to summon the dead in a country where nothing ever dies, where every man, woman, and child becomes half-dead servants of the Vamphyri?

Sad to see him go

Another great narration by James Langton for this series. He captures the dialects so perfectly and is a near perfect fit for the Necroscope series. It's a real shame he won't be continuing with the rest of the series. The Source is a fantastic piece of world building for the Necroscope world, pulling back the curtain to reveal the vampires' home world. While I prefer the ancient Dracula-esque Ferenczys, I think this is the entry that really sucked me into the series.

Great book, but flaws.

The beginning of most of the chapters are either cut off or muted. At least they were for me.

Lumley never disappoints!

like all his other books it's imaginative, fast moving, and fun. he doesn't skimp on the violence and gore.

Into the Vampire world!

The Necroscope series really takes off with this entry, where our heroes venture into a world ruled by the horrific Wamphyri! There's no playing coy here: the Lovecraftian horrors are on full grotesque display. Definitely try it out. I'd even recommend skipping the first two books and going right into The Source.

Great book. Horrible Production

i loved listening to this series until this book. I don't blame the narrator, as he did fine. Rather, the decision from the production team to make the vampire dialogue sound like it is coming from an echo chamber absolutely ruined the presentation. At times I couldn't even understand what was being said. Couple that with the ridiculous wolf sound effects, and the experience was poor. I abandoned the book after a couple hours, despite loving the first three audiobooks in the series.

The setup for book 4.

Narrator is excellent as always, but the story is slightly weaker than the previous two. This was to set up the series as it seems Lumley was repairing to make this and long-term series by this point. The issue with the story is that nothing was unexpected. All telegraphed without surprises. still it's enjoyable enough to not hurt the overall story and continue the series.

Superb - now let's get the whole series!

The Necroscope series is fact becoming one of my favourite audiobook experiences. Not only is it my favourite of Lumley's various series but it's narrated beautifully. Whenever I imagine any of the characters it's James Langton's performance I hear.

These are absolutely superb and I recommend them to fans of lovecraftian horror and anyone who wants an original and rich take on the vampire mythos rooted in a good understanding. Please Macmillan and Audible - get Langton back in the studio asap and get this whole series out and available. A Necroscope revival is long overdue.

Masterfully done

Having reread these books numerous times over the years, I was a bit reluctant to buy the audiobook, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The accents, tone, speed and tension building were all excellently done.

I've bought the first 3 audiobooks in this series and I hope to God he goes on to narrate the vampire worlds and the lost years.

A true professional and a great tribute to the greatest horror writer of all time.

Loved this books the first and second time and now listening to them is every bit as good. Hope they continue making the rest of the series. This book is just the start of the next stage of the epic saga.
