Halvvejs gennem 1. g. falder Pi om på gulvet midt i engelsktimen. Hun har længe følt sig utilpas og presset og må nu sygemeldes på ubestemt tid med angst. Hendes forældre er forstående og overbeviste om, at hun snart skal komme tilbage igen, og gymnasievennerne sender søde beskeder med ønsker om god bedring.
Pi selv har svært ved at mærke noget som helst, men et møde med den udviklingshæmmede pige, Vicky, som bor oppe ovenpå, åbner op for nye måder at anskue livet på.
