In Making Room, he writes not only as an eco-spiritual expert, but also as a fellow pilgrim on the journey toward simplicity, which he defines as the choices that create the freedom to honor our own deepest needs, the concentric circles of human relationships, and God’s gifts of the natural world.

Franciscan Father Murray Bodo takes us on the journey with Francis, as we see his pain, his suffering, his dying to self. Story
"What must I do to gain eternal life?” The rich man who asked this of Jesus was told to sell all he had and give to the poor. But, more importantly, he was told, “Come, follow me!” Franciscan Casey Cole challenges us to let go of something more difficult than material wealth: expectations, anxiety, comfort, wounds, enemies, power - and our very selves. Speaking from both personal and pastoral experience, he outlines the stumbling blocks that turn us away from following Jesus as true disciples. The response to “What must I do?” is simple but not easy: Let go. Now.

We are born to savor life, to live in the moment. What holds us back? When we stop the noise, the distraction, the compulsion to perform, the fear of rejection, we make space to savor the power of the present moment. We carry this capacity to honor the present into every encounter and relationship, meaning that we honor the dignity that is reflected by God’s goodness and grace. Every encounter, every relationship, is a place to include, invite mercy, encourage, receive, heal, reconcile, repair, say thank you, pray, celebrate, refuel, and restore.

Story
What do you do when life makes a sharp left turn? When the coronavirus pandemic hit, Terry Hershey found himself unexpectedly asking that question; and as a popular speaker and author, he was inundated with other people asking it too. In Stand Still, Hershey lays out the answer: that in every unforeseen challenge there is an invitation to pause, re-evaluate the status quo, and welcome the change of heart that is knocking on your door. “Transformative events will be hard,” he writes. “So, whatever love is in your heart, nurture it. Develop it. Grow it. Spread it.”
Publisher's Summary
Christianity is a mysterious faith. Some of these mysteries can be described with Scripture or doctrine, but others can only be experienced. Those graced with these experiences, these intimate glimpses of God, are called mystics. Murray Bodo's sensitive guidance leads us into the heart of what these mystics have expressed about God and how their insight can deepen our own experience of the boundless mystery of a loving God.
This updated and expanded edition includes new chapters on St. Clare and St. Bonaventure.
Critic Reviews
Because I share my brother Murray’s lifetime fascination with the mystics, I sort of assumed there would not be much new here for me (which is called pride!). Honestly, it was not true! I kept discovering new facts, quotes, insights, historical contexts that presented each of these figures in a much more exciting and yet also imitable way. What a treat it was to read this book. And now I am quite sure it will be a treat for you too. (Richard Rohr, OFM)
