Story
When Lou Winterpicks up a dog-eared magazine in the dentist's waiting room and spots an article about clearing clutter, she little realises how it will change her life. What begins as an earnest spring clean soon spirals out of control. Lou's loved ones grow disgruntled. Why is clearing out cupboards suddenly more important than making his breakfast, her husband, Phil, wonders? The truth is, the more rubbish Lou lets go of, the more light and air can get to those painful, closed-up places at the centre of her heart.

Cherry, Maggie and Rose are mother, daughter and granddaughter, each with their own hopes, dreams and even sorrows. They have always been close, so when, in a moment of impulse, Cherry buys a gorgeous but run-down pub in the village she grew up in, it soon becomes a family affair. It's their 20-year school reunion but the Plunkett sisters have their own reasons for not wanting to attend. Caroline, now a successful knitwear designer, spends her time flying between her business in England and her lover in Italy. As far as she's concerned, her school days, and what happened to her the year she left, should stay in the past. Eleanor, meanwhile, is unrecognisable from the fun-loving girl she was in school. Syrupy Story
Bramley writes very light feel good fiction but this one was far too syrupy. The main character is wholly unbelievable and copes with tragedy in the most benevolent manner. Weak story line throughout. The appearance of characters from other books enlivened this dull, predictable and unbelievable story. Excellent performance by the narrator

This is such a lovely and inspiring story, and really just what the doctor ordered in these challenging times.
I love the fact that even though it’s a new story, we revisit the beloved characters from the Lemon Tree Cafe and the Evergreens.
Well narrated ( as always) by Colleen Prendergast.

Absolutely brilliant
Well done Kathy, another wonderful read.
So lovely to be back in the village of Barnaby, and catch up with characters from previous books.
Now I’m going to have a long wait for your next novel.
I do hope it’s based around Barnaby.
Thank you for a pure escapism.
Also well done to the narrative as always superbly read by Coleen Prendergast.

Fab story as ever from Cathy. Narrator ok.
Wonderful story as ever from Cathy Bramley featuring her trademark simple lives and complicated relationships. Loved the setting, she’s obviously done a lot of research. Really good book for somebody to read or gift, if they are suffering bereavement as there is a well handled side-theme.
Not sure why this narrator keeps being chosen for story set in Derbyshire as she has a slight Brummie accent. Therefore so do most of the characters. Some dialogue is great, but sometimes dialogue section sounds no different from the narrative. At worst, this narrator has a frustrating intonation that sounds like someone plodding downstairs, losing emphasis at the end of sentences making it hard to listen to in the car. Even when characters are excited, some of the dialogue comes across as humdrum. Misplaced emphasis on words in sentences is frequent, even , for instance, putting the emphasis on ‘new’ in New Zealand. She is adequate at best, I’m sure she’s a very nice person but it’s very frustrating to listen to these little idiosyncrasies as it takes me out of the story. Would love to hear a different narrator on future Cathy Bramley audiobooks.
