About this listen
Huskie Dog describes his dog sled adventures from start to finish. This annual Iditarod sled race covers one thousand grueling, perilous miles.
"Yipee! I’m in the Iditarod race with a team of dogs and my musher, who is the driver of the dog sled. Originally, the Iditarod was a mail supply route across Alaska in the 1800s. In 1925, the children in Nome were sick and needed serum. In bad weather, the medicine had to be carried by mushers over a long distance. The medicine was delivered in time to save the children. The Iditarod race celebrates those brave mushers and their dogs. Let the race begin."
