This book is bizarre
I have tried to finish it but am unable to as it is just bizarre. It is meant to be set in Australia but I doubt if the author has even been here. She has it set in a coastal town in Victoria on the Atlantic Ocean.. huh? She calls creeks or rivers burns which is a Scottish name and I doubt no one in Australia ever uses that term unless they are actually from Scotland. There are many other terms used that are not used in Australia and the overall atmosphere is of an English village, not an Aussie town. It is actually also boring. I hate saying that as I love slower stories and don't want lots of drama but this book meanders unnecessarily in a very odd way. The character of Doris is meant to be quirky but she is just querulous, juvenile and often downright nasty. The performance is really good though. I have tried to like it but cant get past the awful editing and odd sense that this is an English story the author thought might be better if suddenly set in Australia. Not sure why. Anyway cannot recommend it.
