About this listen

The holidays had come and gone, and Doyle was chafing to get back home to London, so as to start being productive, again. Acton’s hereditary estate was grand indeed, but there was something a bit off-putting about the grandeur, and all that tiresome peacefulness. After all, Trestles hadn’t always been a peaceful sort of place; for hundreds of years, it had housed generation after generation who were consumed with ruthless ambition, and who were willing to sail very close to the wind, in their quest for material gain. Best to whisk Acton away, before this troublesome atmosphere seeped into his very bones....

One of my all time favourite book series. Entertains with great characters and plots. A fun read/listen for a crime story.

Always an entertains read and listen

I found this to have a very slow and drawn out storyline. Repeated reflection by Doyle on the behaviours and thoughts of Acton and the other characters lead me to conclude that the author had run out of ideas on how to proceed with the plot. The narrator was not helpful & seemed to change style part way through from voicing the characters to straight forward narration. I feel it was a waste of my credit.

Disappointing.

Annoying characters, implausible plot that tries to blend crime romance with a touch of fantasy. Most irritating was the anachronistic and stilted narrative voice. I lost count of how many times «mayhap » was used. The readers voice attempted accents not that convincingly and mispronounced some words. Sorry I wasted my money on it.

Dreadful rubbish
