About this listen
For the first time we discover what really happened between his sister and the dastardly Wickham. How did he distract his friend Bingley from pining for his beloved Jane? Why did he propose to another young woman? Only to his diary does he tell his true story. At last we see Darcy as he really is; and, beneath his polite facade, we find a sensitive, private and passionate man.

But listening to David Rintol reading was a joy.

The darker acts of Wickem were a bit hard to hear when use to the polite Austen versions, but unfortunately very believable. Along with a promiscuous Darcy at the start of the book!
But following his thoughts from hate to love is wonderfully done. An enjoyment for any Austen fan.
Also loved this interpretation of Anne DeBurge, will add it to my head cannon of P&P.
Such a Firth-like Darcy voice.

TRIGGER WARNING While I dislike the scenes recounting rape and the gentry taking advantage of young females who served them, I can accept this behaviour was no doubt true of the era.
Otherwise, the tale steadily unfolds as Darcy genuinely learns to test societal proofs justly and comes to respect and appreciate what he finally gains in Elizabeth.
I particularly enjoyed the firsthand accounts of men's business which was not the business Jane Austen (author of source novel Pride & Prejudice) concerned herself with: details of travel, roads, estate planning, managing tenants, crops, livestock, funds and dowries.
I will be listening for the third time soon!
David Rintoul ☆sigh!☆
