About this listen

Mothering Pirates is a descendant’s story born in history and wrapped in a tale of best friends. River Grey is the third great- granddaughter of the famous pirate Anne Bonny. Her best friend, Lexington O’Malley is the third great-granddaughter of The Pirate Queen of Ireland, Grace O’Malley. Both are redheads leading ordinary lives in Kinsale, Ireland, one a journalist and one an ER nurse. An invitation to do a story about the California Delta sends River on an adventure complete with life on a floating house and a band of river pirates, all descendants of pirates. The Delta is a good place to hide and keep secrets. The Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers have plenty of them hidden in their depths.

Lexington is keeping a good secret herself back in Ireland. When she follows River to the Cali Delta, she has no idea what she is about to find. Old river towns complete with Tash - Irish spirits, and a cranky female detective with a penchant for redheads and Cheetos. River and “Lexie” are in the thick of it. Will they live up to their pirate blood and be courageous and daring? Or will Lexie’s secret destroy a life-long friendship? Sit back and enjoy the ride to Locke, have yourself a saddle leather cocktail and discover the land that birthed the Gold Rush days.
