Publisher's Summary

If we can see the world through boys’ eyes a little better, we will make different choices in the way we mother them…and we will find them less confusing and love them more deeply.

Mothers of sons are worried about raising their boys in a world where negative images of masculinity are front and centre of our media, almost every day. Not only that, but statistically our boys are still struggling in many ways.

Even though we live in a time where we recognise that nothing in gender is fixed, it remains a fact that the influence of a mother on her son is massive.

A mother of four sons herself, Maggie Dent draws on her personal experience - and over four decades work as a teacher, counsellor and now author and speaker - to help build understanding, empathy and compassion for our boys.

Maggie shares her five key secrets that every mum needs to know, and uses the voices of men she has worked with and surveyed to reveal what really matters in a boy’s relationship with his mother and other mother figures.

Maggie is one of Australia’s most popular parenting educators and her seminars about boys have sold out all across Australia, in Canada, and in the UK. She is finally sharing her insights, her reflections, and (as always) her humour around mothering boys in this book that will help you be the mum your son needs you to be.

“Maggie’s perspective on raising boys is spot on. She writes with humor and depth, providing insight and strategies for many of the most important issues facing moms. There is a lovely ease to her writing and a powerful honesty. I hope every mother of a son (and everyone else!) will read this book. The future of the world, to a great extent, depends on how we raise our boys." (Michael Gurian, New York Times best-selling author of The Wonder of Boys and Saving Our Sons)

The best parenting book I’ve ever read

I’ve read a tonne of parenting books — and this is by far the best.

While listening to it, I repeatedly thought to myself: "This is one book that EVERY single mother of sons should read."

You will understand all of the wild and wonderful things about your boys, what makes them tick, how to love them best, how to diffuse difficult situations, how to help them through times of challenge, how to prevent them from forming a 'mother wound', how to help them make friends, help them become BEAUTIFUL MEN who love their Mummas and want to come home at Christmas, Easter, and always.

Best of all, you will gain a better understanding of their hearts, their souls, and how they think (it's very different to women!).

As a mother of two beautiful sons, this book was such a gift for me.

If every single mother of sons could / would read this book, the world would be a much brighter place.

Thank you, Maggie. A whole generation of parents is indebted to you.

Warm and practical

I loved the insight into the inner workings of the mind of my little roaster boy and feel more confident in my choices around letting him explore the world as he chooses after reading this book.

Gorgeous!

As a new Aunty I wanted information on how best to be a good influence for my baby nephew. As only having a sister I’ve didn’t grown up with many little boys around and this book has helped me so much in understanding and appreciating our dear boys.
What I didn’t expect is that it would give me a new understanding and appreciation for some of the things my husband does. Thinking of him as just a little boy at heart.
Wonderful book I truly loved it.

Must read for all mums of boys

I’m so glad I finally made the time for this book, it has been a goldmine of information. Straight to the point, tips that actually work and I feel like a better parent having listened to it. Hearing it in Maggie’s voice gives it so much more authenticity. Not only has it helped me understand my boys but my husband and father as well.
