If only I’d read this earlier
- By Anonymous User on 11-03-2021
Publisher's Summary
If we can see the world through boys’ eyes a little better, we will make different choices in the way we mother them…and we will find them less confusing and love them more deeply.
Mothers of sons are worried about raising their boys in a world where negative images of masculinity are front and centre of our media, almost every day. Not only that, but statistically our boys are still struggling in many ways.
Even though we live in a time where we recognise that nothing in gender is fixed, it remains a fact that the influence of a mother on her son is massive.
A mother of four sons herself, Maggie Dent draws on her personal experience - and over four decades work as a teacher, counsellor and now author and speaker - to help build understanding, empathy and compassion for our boys.
Maggie shares her five key secrets that every mum needs to know, and uses the voices of men she has worked with and surveyed to reveal what really matters in a boy’s relationship with his mother and other mother figures.
Maggie is one of Australia’s most popular parenting educators and her seminars about boys have sold out all across Australia, in Canada, and in the UK. She is finally sharing her insights, her reflections, and (as always) her humour around mothering boys in this book that will help you be the mum your son needs you to be.
“Maggie’s perspective on raising boys is spot on. She writes with humor and depth, providing insight and strategies for many of the most important issues facing moms. There is a lovely ease to her writing and a powerful honesty. I hope every mother of a son (and everyone else!) will read this book. The future of the world, to a great extent, depends on how we raise our boys." (Michael Gurian, New York Times best-selling author of The Wonder of Boys and Saving Our Sons)

Can't listen to any more.
Why?
1) swearing throughout (howbeit mild/moderate.
2) The basis of her philosophy is her religious beliefs (evolution) which automatically makes me dismiss much of what she says as whimsical and not grounded in experience or phsycology.
3) Also, some crude humor.
Could say more, but won't.

Monumental For Me As A Mother!!
I grew up one of four girls and have a daughter and three boys (all within 4 and a half years). This book helped explain why my sons are so much different than my daughter and has helped me adjust my expectations and grow my compassion. I both ugly cried and laughed out loud multiple times. This book is a TRUE GEM and a bright light piercing through generation after generation of toxic masculinity and hardened hearts toward boys. I recommend to everyone I know, even if only to understand men better in general. Can’t imagine my love for this book ever fading 🤍

Very good book if you have boys and are looking for guidance
Enormously insightful and very interesting. I learned a lot. Very long, so it took me a while to get through it, with having two small boys, but I didn’t feel the need to skip any parts. Everything in this book is important. Easy to listen to, not boring. I laughed and cried at parts too.

Very good book
Very insightful into the mastery of parenthood. Since listening to this book it opened my eyes and I look at my son with more kindness and understanding
