Die Ermittler der Morduntersuchungskommission um Oberleutnant Otto Castorp nehmen schnell den Vater des Opfers ins Visier, einen Antiquitätenhändler mit Westkontakt, der dem Arbeiter- und Bauernstaat feindselig gegenüber steht. Der Ermordete, das weiß Castorp, hatte sich als Informeller Mitarbeiter bei der Staatssicherheit verpflichtet. Zudem scheint der Fall auch mit einer Einbruchsserie in der Stadt zu tun zu haben. Und mit alten Geschichten. Sehr alten, sehr finsteren Geschichten - sie reichen zurück in die Zeit vor 1945.
