Selv forklarede hun, at mottoerne hjalp hende med at finde en retning i tilværelsen og forløse de evner og kræfter, der boede i hende. Og af samme grund så hun også mottoet som magisk for den, det tilhørte.
Mit livs mottoer og andre essays er Blixens tale om mottoer til Det amerikanske akademi i 1959 og andre gode essays fra forfatterindes hånd. Bogen udkommer i en smuk indbundet gavebogsudgave med nyt forord af Margrethe Vestager.
