Story
A unique science fiction first-contact novel told from the aliens' point-of-view; a 21st-century Gulliver's Travels with Homo sapiens as the Lilliputians. The last thing the factfinders - who call themselves Life - expected to find while traveling in space in The Curious on a mission from their planet, The Living World, was other life. But one day they stumble upon the third planet out from a backwater sun and find it teeming with a vast diversity of life, including one sentient and cognizant, if primitive, species that they dub: Otherlife.

Story
As a sci-fi author with a hit TV show, I have a few ideas about what alien invaders are supposed to look like. In my stories, they’re technologically advanced monsters, with tentacles, and no faces. Turns out I was right about the technology. And about how angry they’d be. But the way they look is more terrifying than even I could have imagined. They look exactly like us. Because they are us.

Story
The United Nations of Earth sent out the Forerunner ships to explore and colonize the four most promising star systems within 50 light-years of Earth. Forerunner One left Earth under the command of Captain Clayton Cross, heading for Trappist-1. After a ninety year journey to reach it, the crew encountered not only a habitable world, but alien life already inhabiting it, and dark secrets lurking beneath the surface. The revelation of who these aliens are and what they want proves more terrifying than promising, and Captain Cross is forced to make tough decisions that will affect not only his crew, but the fate of the entire human race.

Story
Max Edwards has always felt like something was wrong with the world. Like something was...off. Like his entire life was a lie being told by the people around him. Then, it begins. From his friend’s acreage outside Oklahoma City, he witnesses a giant saucer descend from the sky to hover over the city. Countries all around the world report the same thing - mysterious vessels that refuse all attempts to communicate. As the world comes apart at the seams, Max realizes everything that’s ever happened to him was leading up to this.

Story
Sam never knew his parents. In fact, he’s never met another human - or seen a sunrise, smelled a flower or eaten a regular meal. All of that is about to change. It’s night in the desert, but he doesn’t feel the cold. There is a building ahead. Other people will be inside. His heart skips a beat as he takes a step forward, the rocks crunching under his bare feet. He has dreamed of this moment for as long as he can remember. But that which can be found can just as easily be lost again. It would have been better had Sam’s arrival gone unnoticed.

Story
People work; folk play. That is how it has been in this country for as long as Sam can remember. He is happy, and he understands that this is the way it should be. People are bigger than folk. They are stronger. They do not need food or water. They do not need the warmth of a fire. All they need are jobs to do and a blacksmith to fix them when they break. The people work so the folk can drink their moonshine, fish a little, and throw horseshoes. But once Sam starts to wonder why the world is like this, his life will never be the same.

Story
No one knows what to make of the mysterious clicks. To Ajay Joshi, the amateur astronomer who discovered the sounds with his radio telescope, the clicks represent proof of aliens on Callisto, a moon of Jupiter. To Dr. Kiera Walsh, an aerospace engineer introduced to Ajay and his findings, the consistent, repetitive pattern of the clicks points to the possibility of a lost Martian probe caught in Callisto's orbit. She shares this view with her employer, Augustus Amato, and is surprised to learn he disagrees with her, believing the clicks herald something more ominous orbiting Callisto.

Story
Victoria Marin, captain of the U.E. Condor, and her crew of Vultures have been running dry for months. In danger of losing her command and her credibility if she can't locate fresh salvage, she locks onto the distress signal of an alien ship in hopes of valuable cargo. What she finds instead is First Prince Tavram, the heir apparent to one of the largest empires in known space. Tavram's ship has been crippled after narrowly escaping an ambush and his would-be assassin is coming to finish the job.
Publisher's Summary
Titan. Sixth moon of Saturn. A gleaming jewel of natural resources, ripe for harvesting by the first private space company to stake a claim.
Diamond Aerospace launches a ship with an experimental engine that will get a crew to Titan in five months. Their mission is to lay the groundwork for a permanent orbital research station, one that will be the future base of operations for activity on that distant moon.
Shortly after launch, a devastating malfunction forces the crew to make a choice: continue to Titan, or go back home. As the truth about their mission unravels, one thing is clear: someone on Earth knew about the system flaw and covered it up.
Between the critical situation in space and the corporate politics on Earth, humanity's first voyage beyond Mars quickly turns into a relentless struggle for survival. Yet surviving the journey isn't the crew's only concern. Even if they make it to Titan, they will face another problem. Something is already there.

Mission One
Extremely wordy. Slow to develop. Tedious. Took quite a few chapters to get past the sleezy, self centered, neuvo riche guy to the launch. I'm not sure the launch ever happened, I never got that far. Not good sci-fi as far as I'm concerned.

YA sci-fi
I bought this book before any reviews were posted. Always a gamble. This is a descent story but not very deep. I get a made for TV movie vib. I’m not downing the story. It’s just not as sophisticated as my usual choices. Btw it’s completely PG. Nothing graphic.

great book!
every time I start a new book with a narrator NM I don't know it is initially jarring to listen to , but I know myself and always wait and listen for at least an hour before i make up my Kind - and boy am I happy I did! there are a story threads I feel are left dangling there, but overall this was a very enjoyable listen!

Good Yarn.
I wouldn't say it was a riveting listen. It followed a reasonable normal line. Simple and easy to follow. Bit like ah 1950's SiFi Radio story... but updated. The ending was almost predicted but pretty quick. Not a bad listen on a long journey, easy to pick up.
