A woman goes out for groceries. She never comes back. And the man demanding answers just might be the one hiding the truth.

Detective Bonnie Hunter is supposed to be taking a break. After a domestic violence call-out ended in tragedy, she’s sidelined, angry – and haunted by what she couldn’t prevent. But when a young Sydney woman disappears from a quiet holiday town, a former mentor pulls Bonnie back in. Just take a look, he says. Tell me what you see.

Juliet Keller is missing. Her car's parked on the village main street. Her phone and keys – dropped in the grass. Her husband, Sam, says she vanished without a trace. But Sam Keller's anger simmers too close to the surface. His story is too polished. And the more Bonnie sees, the more her instincts start screaming. Because men like Sam don't always leave marks – but they do leave scars.

Now Bonnie must find out what really happened to Juliet Keller – and whether the truth is something no one's ready to face.

Loved this book from the start. Detective Bonnie Hunter is a strong lead character, edgy, smart and haunted by her childhood and trauma. The theme of this story is embedded in domestic abuse and is a hard listen at times however I encourage readers to hang in there as it’s ultimately empowering. The web of people who support victims of abuse is well characterised in this story without being over the top. Catherine’s writing style held my attention from the first to last page. Highly recommend. Strap yourself in as I predict that Detective Bonnie Hunter is gonna be an Aussie favourite for many readers. Great read.

This book has become one of my favourites. The author has certainly done her research well and it shows in this story and I thank her for writing on a topic that affects millions of women world wide.
The narrator gave the book the perfect emotional feelings required for such a story.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

It is extremely hard to say a great read to a very tragic story of abuse. But I do. I listened to the story as it unfolded it was told with respect, mercy and grace for victims of domestic violence and the systems that try to stop it.

A great read
