About this listen

A woman goes out for groceries. She never comes back. And the man demanding answers just might be the one hiding the truth.

Detective Bonnie Hunter is supposed to be taking a break. After a domestic violence call-out ended in tragedy, she’s sidelined, angry – and haunted by what she couldn’t prevent. But when a young Sydney woman disappears from a quiet holiday town, a former mentor pulls Bonnie back in. Just take a look, he says. Tell me what you see. Juliet Keller is missing. Her car's parked on the village main street. Her phone and keys – dropped in the grass. Her husband, Sam, says she vanished without a trace.

But Sam Keller's anger simmers too close to the surface. His story is too polished. And the more Bonnie sees, the more her instincts start screaming. Because men like Sam don't always leave marks – but they do leave scars.

Now Bonnie must find out what really happened to Juliet Keller – and whether the truth is something no one's ready to face.

Taut, emotional and intensely human, Missing is the gripping first novel in the Detective Bonnie Hunter series – perfect for fans of Darcy Tindale, Fiona Tarr and Chris Hammer.

Missing by Catherine Lee

Missing is book one in the Detective Bonnie Hunter series.

Detective Bonnie Hunter has been sidelined and left feeling conflicted after a domestic violence call-out went horribly wrong; she is seconded to the homicide team by her friend, 'Coop'.

The team is investigating a potential kidnapping after Juliet Keller goes to the grocery store and never returns. Bonnie's domestic violence spidey senses start tingling as soon as she meets Juliet's husband, who is a lawyer from a family with significant means behind them. The book explores themes of domestic violence and coercive control, and there are chapters from Juliet's POV that describe scenes of both, so read with caution.

I think you'll like Missing by Catherine Lee if you like books with strong female leads or enjoy Australian police procedurals (for example, anything by Shelly Burr @shelleyburrwrites, Jane Harper @janeharperauthor or Dervla McTiernan @dervlamctiernan) or books that you aren't comfortable reading, like Denizen by James McKenzie Watson @jamesmcwatson or psychological thrillers like Nightwatching by Tracy Sierra @tsierraauthor or Dark Mode by Ashley Kalagian Blunt @akalagianblunt all of which I loved, but ... they were not warm cosy books.

A big thumbs up. I'll be adding other books by Catherine Lee to my TBR pile. (I swear that 141 unread books in my Kobo account are a perfectly reasonable number of books to read.)
