Don't listen while driving

This book was really long. just make sure you're at home for last chapters for the meditation.

Excellent.

Highly recommended. One of the best I've ever downloaded. There is a very repeatable theme in this book. The author hammers the point again and again - in so many ways. This is exactly the type of book which can bring clarity on what mindfulness is and how to apply it in real life.

Excellent Overview of the Subject

We are often rushed and stressed in our society and don't realize that people have grappled with the same fears and anxieties that we experience for thousands of years across all societies. We think our situation is somehow unique to ourselves or the modern age. This book helps us realize that our fears are actually part of being human, part of how our brains are wired. Through numerous touching personal stories and examples from his clinical practice, the author shows in a very gentle and compationate way that we are all facing many of the same fears. And, points to a path to deal more effectively with these fears through meditation practice. He also explains better than any other books I've read, what the meditation practices are doing to reveal how our minds work. Most meditation books tell you what to do but not really why. I found the explanations helpful. This book really rounded out my understanding of meditation. I think it would also be an excellent introduction, especially for those who might be uncomfortable with some of the mysticism of meditation and would like a little more scientific understanding of what is happening.

This was the course that got me meditating

I have dabbled in meditation for years. I have read Buddhist texts all the way back to as teenager. This is the one that got me into the life changing habit of a meditation practice.Religions all make grandiose claims. "The healing power of prayer" and all that. Adherents go out and prosthelytize. it is in that background that claims about the benefits of meditation and Buddhist practice are judged.This course starts with the science. All scientific double-bind tests with control groups to see the effects of mindfulness practice on any number of life quality measures from pain, anxiety, depression to back-pain and fear of death. And it is shown to work.

A phenomenal, paradigm-shifting listen

This book is awesome and inspiring. The author is entertaining and an amazing lecturer. His stories are enjoyable to listen to and bring out the meaning of the research. Listening will leave you saner, better, and more centered, especially if you practice! I listen to it on repeat and use different mindfulness techniques for my patients in chronic pain (I'm a physical therapist). These have had outstanding effects. I had a patient with MS come in with a flare of spasticity of the right side of her body and walk out normally, I had a patient with 10 years of chronic neck pain that was pain free in 6 visits of mechanical work and meditation/mindfulness work. But the most profound effect of this book is that it has helped change me from a person with generalized anxiety to a person that knows what to do when a flare of anxiety comes my way. I wish this book and it's best effect on all of you. Don't hesitate, it will be one of the greatest purchases you make.

Get to know your loved ones your friends and yours

I learned more about myself listening to this book than I have my entire Life. To put better it wrapped all my knowledge of myself and others and answered all my questions. I see life in a whole new light.

Absolutely Great

I've been meditating and trying mindfulness for more than fifteen years. As a left-brained science-y kinda guy, I have always been interested in the science behind this practice, and mind-body connections generally. This lecture series is extremely well-researched and presented. When I finished the lectures, I decided to start over and listen to them again. There's no way to listen to this all at once. Of course, the real benefit is to listen to a lecture and then take time to think about it and consider how to implement some new practices.

CHANGED MY OUTLOOK

I would highly recommend this book. I have been looking for self help books on healing from an abusive marriage. This book and the exercises have given me a new way to look at things. It has also helped me in how I react. I now feel more in control and less like a pinball being bounced around. Well worth the money and time investment.

Terrible narrator, no guided meditations

Monotonous narrator.
This is the background to mindfulness rather than guided meditations. Didn't enjoy at all.
