Publisher's Summary

Mindfulness Meditation is about learning to experience life fully as it unfolds - moment by moment. One popular misconception about meditation is that it is a way to make your mind blank so you can escape from what you are feeling. However, author Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn wants you to understand that meditation is an invitation to wake up, experience the fullness of your life, and transform your relationship with your problems, your fears, and any pain and stress in your life so that they don't wind up controlling you and eroding the quality of your life and your creativity. It is not about running away, or manipulating mental states.

Through the practice of mindfulness, you can learn to develop greater calmness, clarity and insight in facing and embracing all your life experiences, even life's trials, and turning them into occasions for learning, growing and deepening your own strength and wisdom.

In this program, internationally-known meditation teacher Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn shows you how to:

  • Access your own deep inner resources for learning, growing, and healing
  • Enrich your experience of everyday living by being fully present in the moment
  • Reduce stress by responding creatively rather than reacting mindlessly
  • Bring greater clarity and understanding to everything you do
  • Function more effectively within your apparent limitations and problems by cultivating your fundamental strengths
  • Reestablish contact with your physical body to heighten and expand experiences of pleasure and vitality
  • Reduce or overcome addictive or self-destructive behavior patterns
  • Develop a strong daily meditation practice

Such wisdom

As one who has been reading and listening to Jon Kabat-Zinn for about 30 years, and has most, if not all, of his books and CDs, I was not disappointed in this book. The first part was an overview of his Mindfulness Stress Reduction Program and refreshed material that recurs in his works, but the last part crystallised his wisdom and took the listener through a beautiful new loving kindness meditation that incorporated some poems. His gentle sincerity flows all through the book.

Perhaps his best work

Jon Kabat Zinn returns with another look at mindfulness. This outpouring contains all his best anecdotes, perspectives, and musings on meditation, gathered from his journey of however many years teaching and practicing. Along the way we're treated to several guided sessions that remind us that each breath, each moment is a new beginning.

Get this one first

Having completed several mindfulness audio books already I highly recommend this one be the first one to put on your list. This book establishes a solid foundation in a very practical manner. Well blended and presented it kept me engaged.

Insightful Mindfulness Teaching

I enjoyed this audiobook. It confirmed things that I had already learned as well as elaborated on several of them. One example is that one must stay in the moment. Let go of your thoughts to magnify your presence in the moment. Meditation practice helps you to have 100% of yourself present when making critically important decisions. At every moment in your life you're more present for it.

The cumulative work of his collection to date.

I had read many other reviews about how this one is the best to start with when it comes to Kabaat-Zin's work, and i can agree. I had read many of the rest of his works and listened to many special casts he has done on audible and this was the glue and tie in to many of his other works and answered alot of my questions about the subject. This is a straight forward work that is easy to listen to regardless of your knowledge on the matter. Well worth it!

Profound wisdom.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The tools that Jon provides are very secular and have enormous potential to eradicate that sense of dissatisfaction, stress and worry in our day-to-day lives.

What other book might you compare Mindfulness Meditation to and why?

His book Wherever You Go, There You Are. I also see some similarities in Joseph Goldstein's work. This audiobook however is a much more casual conversation.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This audiobook always brings me back to centre, let's me see where I am and provides great insight into the human condition and how we can embrace it for the better.

Any additional comments?

You won't regret this one, timeless wisdom in a secular format.

Very Enjoyable!

Loved the teaching in this book. The authors way of presenting information is very easy to understand. These concepts are simple, but this journey is not easy in the slightest. This was a sigh of relief in what can be a very hard journey = Mindlessness to Mindfulness. Thank you!

Really powerful and well articulated book

I wasn't keen on the speed of narration at the beginning but when the pace smoothed out, I could focus on the message.
I am part of a mindfulness group and this brilliantly complemented the teachings. it is easily accessible to all and overall great.

A re-definition of the concept of meditation

These reflections and opportunities for practice are well worth a listen, whether familiar with or new to mindfulness. I particularly enjoyed the references to literature, poetry, philosophy and art throughout the discussion, which provided vivid and memorable examples. I will definitely return to these recordings again and again.

What a wonderful human being

Would be great to have the guided meditations bookmarked as chapters, though it's easy enough to book mark them for future reference.

Defiantly a book I will listen to more than once.

This practice is life changing. This book is a wonderful, Jon Kabat-Zin is an incredibly warm and gentle guide full of wisdom and includes some beautiful poetry to illustrate the learning.

Outstanding

Taking the listener gently and completely into the heart of his philosophy and approach, this introduction to mindfulness has a completeness and clarity that comes across as if JKZ has taken you aside and led you personally to his most important truths about mindfulness and meditation

Lifechanging Book

Narrator was brilliant, this book shows you things that you and your body does that we fail to notice and take for granted and how much unnecessary stress we put ourselves under. It opens you up to a new way of being.
