Publisher's Summary

A jungle planet must defend against exploitative aliens in this novel by the number one New York Times best-selling author of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

From the rich imagination of science-fiction great Alan Dean Foster comes the story of Midworld, a Humanx Commonwealth planet that's equally fragile and hostile. Covered by a lush rainforest, Midworld is home to a primitive society that lives in harmony with the natural world. But the arrival of an exploitative human company, whose workers know nothing of Midworld's delicate ecosystem, sparks a conflict. Should Midworld's villagers aid the humans or stand against them?

The hero of Foster's addictive pause-resister, Born, decides to lead two humans across the perilous jungle. His choice propels Midworld toward annihilation - and leads him headlong into a battle for survival.

Awesome.

Thank you, Audible. I have read the book many times. The story was read just like my mind had voiced it. Well done!

Not sure I can finish

I bought this book because I loved 'Lost and Found: The Taken Trilogy, Book 1" so I thought I'd try another book by ADF. Unfortunately, I am disappointed. It's NOTHING like my previous book. I find it very difficult to understand and follow. I am a big fan of science Fiction but I want to be able to understand what the book is talking about.
The narration is awful! The way Eric Martin draws out the end of his sentences drive me crazy. I might try another book by ADF but will never listen to another narration by Martin.
I went by the reviews but aster listening to half the book I disagree with most of them. I find it very baffling and difficult to follow. I am going to TRY and finish the book but with 4 hours to go I am not sure I will make it. Will probably end up returning it.
Perhaps my opinion will change as I finish it. If it does I will update this review. I really want to like it.
UPDATE:
I managed to finish the book but unfortunately I am still unable to give it more than 2 stars.
I felt like the author bought a new dictionary from a foreign planet and felt compelled to use every work from it. To me it was very convoluted making it difficult to follow.
The narrator did NOTHING to help the book either.

Rainforest on steroids, persons subsumed

I’ve loved this story for decades, so I’m thrilled that Audible has included Midworld in its collection. It’s suitable for the YA audience, all the way up to us oldsters. I was stimulated to re-read this time by reading Candice Millard’s River of Doubt; her descriptions of the fecundity of the surroundings and the deadly dangers lurking everywhere reminded me so strongly of Midworld that I had to pause the Millard book so I could revisit that fecund and deadly planet, peopled by those who lived with that world and invaded by those who refused to understand it. The narration could’ve been better, but it’s not too bad. If only there were more of a distinction between the denizens and the despoilers …

It would have been 5* if it had a sequel. ;_;

The story way nice. I started reading it after seeing that James Cameron's Avatar was inspired from this. And by the end, I was really hoping for sequel but couldn't find one.

Sumptuous sink into greening.

1st read was in high-school, and I remembered a wonderful world that drew me in. Even now I wished it was all real, even if every step was lethal.
