    Excellent

This Introductory Dutch course follows a good teaching principle of starting from the 'known' and moving to the unknown by starting with words that are the same in English, or similar to the Dutch language. From there intuitive advances are developed, all within a classroom setting with two genuine students working with an encouraging teacher. I found this a clever and effective structure to build some Dutch language foundation.

Contains all the content of Lesson 1 and 2

This is an excellent product. The teacher was easy to understand and I have progressed more than I thought possible. Be aware that this Intro Lesson also contains all the content of Lesson 2- which I also purchased. I will be returning Lesson 2 and purchasing Lesson 3.

Learning languages has always been difficult for me. With the Michel Thomas method, I don't feel stressed and am definitely learning not only vocabulary but grammar.

    I highly recommend this series.

    Excellent Introductory Course

Would you listen to Michel Thomas Method again? Why?

Yes, I've actually been trying to find an intermediate course on audible but no such luck quite yet.

I'm the kind of person who basically thought I couldn't learn a new language. Not because I wasn't intelligent enough, but because I couldn't find the time or patience to do so. This audiobook was perfect for the drive to and from work. I also listened it at home sometimes. If you listen to each section a couple of times, you can really start to pick it up. They do a really great job of slowly introducing each new lesson and word/verbage. Everything builds upon previous lessons very well.

While this won't teach you absolutely everything you need to know. I now feel very comfortable learning the rest of the language with a solid foundation of sentence structure and key words/verbs.

What did you like best about this story?

    That it wasn't a story?

    Which scene was your favorite?

When the hunter saved the girl from the tower.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried when the male student consistently made errors.

    Any additional comments?

Great deal for the small price and quality.

    Length deceptive

The content of this language course is excellent; however, this Audible version of the course only includes the equivalent of 2 CDs. It is listed on Amazon as an alternative under the 8-CD course. All of the course descriptions for the Michel Thomas methods are deceptive and difficult to compare, so just beware of what you are actually getting when you buy this course using the link from the 8-CD listing on Amazon. You are not getting 8CDs worth of lessons.

The best method to learn/practice Dutch speaking

To my experience with language learning and learning material for Dutch in particular, this is the best method to learn quickly the sentence structure in Dutch and feel confident speaking. An alternative would be the Pimsleur method, which is yet more expensive and limited to only beginner level.

    Excellent!

I've studied several languages and am able to manage very well in a couple languageswhen I go abroad, but when I tried to learn Dutch from a couple of the apps I have used to improve my French and my German I was getting nowhere.
I couldn't figure out the pronunciation rules and I couldn't see a pattern that would help me learn new words.

This course has helped me enormously with pronunciation and has given me a lot of useful vocabulary in just a couple days.

I will be buying all the other Dutch courses.

    One of the Best

Fantastic method for learning Dutch, I’ve tried several & this is definitely one of the best out there for independent study. Pronunciation is authentic by a native, who uses two English speaking students, 1 male & 1 female, to tutor & teach. I wish this author had more books out there, at the intermediate & advanced levels, for example. A worthwhile purchase & listen if you want to learn introductory Dutch.

    Love the Michel Thomas method

I enjoy and find much benefit in the Michel Thomas method. The user is introduced to the language slowly but quickly branch out into more complex and useful phrases. This is done in a way that maximizes understanding so you can use it right away to speak your own constructs. Pronunciation is stressed to make you a good speaker for the start. Dank je wel!

    it actually works!

i am very happy with this audio book and have today just purchased the next grade. It really really helps when learning a language. The best part about it is the style in which it is thought in. If you like the free sample you will not be dissapointed with the purchase :)

    Addictive

The publisher notes claim that 'You will learn the language with the students, hearing both their successes and their mistakes to keep you motivated and involved throughout the course.'. That doesn't sound like a big deal until you try it and find that it's really true. I've tried learning a few other languages in the past with limited success, but I really feel this particular course is going to be a great help, and will be something that I'll listen to over and over if it doesn't stick the first time.

I started with the free sample, and was back for the introductory version as soon as I had some credits. And as soon as I'd listened to that I knew that it was worth upgrading to the full version.

I don't often take the time to review the titles that I've downloaded, but this is one course that I'd really like to recommend to others. Try the free sample and see if it works for you.

made it very enjoyable and easy to learn basic concepts. I used it commuting, mouthing most of the words but even so I felt like I was moving on quickly

The best language course out there

It's so easy to learn with this course. Instead of repeating words and phrases parrot-fashion as you might have done at school, from the very beginning you are taught how to construct your own sentences using the more frequently-used verbs and shown how to apply the Dutch grammatical rules (which are surprisingly simple) to these verbs and others so that you can form your own sentences beyond those taught in the course. It is this aspect especially that makes this course unique; good practice is built in from the get-go. That many Dutch words are derived from the same Anglo-Saxon root as their English equivalent is a helpful advantage over some other Teutonic languages, and this is effectively demonstrated in this course.

The teacher is a native speaker from North Holland, and so the pronunciation is taught correctly from the start with tips on how to enunciate properly (even the infamous 'g' sound). With helpful mnemonics and positive encouragement along the way, this course in no way feels like you're in a regular classroom setting; rather a collegiate group of learners with absolutely no prerequisites necessary.

    A very good introduction

A very nice introduction to Dutch. The only thing I disliked was the fact that you are not really given a chance to come up with your version of an answer to the teacher’s question as one of the pupils always starts to answer immediately which for me was quite distracting.

    Goodbye Duolingo

I have spent many hours with duolingo but found myself hardly able to speak a word. It also became every tedious and I hated being constantly attached to my iPad. This Michel Thomas course is far superior. I can put it on while I drive to work and it makes you learn naturally by forcing you to speak and constantly use what you already know. We learnt the Dutch word for 'he' only right at the end of this introductory course because the focus is on formulating sentences and not rote-learning personal pronouns.
The best bit is that because audible allow you to exchange and return books, you can do the entire course without having to purchase any more units.
