Heinrich von Kleist wurde 1777 in Frankfurt (Oder) geboren. Er starb 1811 in Berlin. Die Novelle "Michael Kohlhaas" (1808) zählt zu den bekanntesten Werken Kleists und behandelt auf sprachlich virtuose Weise die Themen Recht, Gerechtigkeit und Selbstjustiz. Der Novelle liegt ein authentischer Fall aus dem 16. Jahrhundert zugrunde.
Sven Görtz über seine Interpretation: "Wenn Kleist heute leben würde und Fußballer wäre, wir würden ihn einen Dribbelkünstler nennen müssen. Er schreibt so wie ein Fußballstar seine Gegner umdribbelt - immer wieder ein Hacken in der Syntax, ein Schlenker, eine Finte in einem Nebensatz. Und das in Sätzen, die nicht selten über eine halbe Buchseite laufen - eine brachiale Lust an Sprache und Rhythmus, die für mich als Sprecher eine wunderbare Herausforderung ist."
