The ignorance of thinking we are different because we have "nice things", such as technology, is the biggest mistake the common man has ever made. Materialism is just one (experimental) method that’s been used to gain control over a set of populations. Capitalism (another word for materialism) and socialism are as opposite as a carrot and stick, but they are both carried out to find the most efficient way to control the world's population.
