Publisher's Summary

Following on from the events begun in A Falcon Flies, Men of Men continues Wilbur Smith's epic story of the Ballantynes.

It is the age of empire, of blood and conquest, of boundless excitement and possibility. Striding in the footsteps of the pioneers is Zouga Ballantyne. His dream begins in the danger and drudgery of the diamond pits and ends up on the rich grasslands of Matabeleland - but not before a king and a proud warrior nation have paid the price of history....

Men of Men is followed by The Angels Weep and The Leopard Hunts in the Darkness.

Another spectacular Wilbur Smith novel.

More "blood and thunder" from Africa's storyteller. The narrator needs to learn some Afrikaans, though.

Good, but not excellent.

You cannot admire the colonial past in Africa. Possibly a lot of the events in this series are true as more is the pity. The rape of Africa has been by corrupt governments and the consuming presence of international companies and overwhelming presence of the PRC.

EXCELLENT Storey.

It's a pity that the narrator has made some pronounceation errors. I lived in Rhodesia most of my life. the errors were very irritating. however the book was great

Grand tale of the birth of Rhodesia

In his wonderful style which describes the geography, the flora & African wildlife…. Wilbur Smith weaves the brutal and often misunderstood history of Southern Africa, the noble Matabele nation, the early hunters and diamond pioneers, the battles and greed of power, politics and Cecil John Rhodes with the family fame, fortune, disaster and life of the early Ballantine’s….

A lovely tale of betrayal, lust, hate, love, loyalty, friendship and drama, peppered with action packed hunting, war and African spirituality…..

A bit convoluted

I am a long term Wilbur Smith fan. I have read every one of the books that he wrote himself. I remember when I read this book many years ago that I found it a bit confusing and not as rollicking as many of Smith’s other stories. However, this one tells the story of the beginnings of the fall of Rhodesia and is a necessary part of the overall narrative of this series (the Ballantine series) I urge those with an interest in Wilbur Smith’s work to persevere with this one.
