About this listen

The Teachings of Meister Eckhart: An Invitation to Experience God in Every Moment

The 13th-century mystic Meister Eckhart was the most brilliant Christian scholar of his day, but he was also legendary for the way he opened listeners to the direct experience of God during his public talks. Today, his written wisdom remains alive as ever, ready to illuminate us. With Meister Eckhart's Living Wisdom, James Finley, one of today's best-known teachers of the Christian contemplative tradition, invites us into Eckhart's insights in the same way this luminary teacher delighted in sharing them - through the spoken word.

"The eye with which I see God is the eye with which God sees me."

If the Divine dwells in all things, including ourselves, then why do we experience His presence only in fleeting moments, if at all? How do we let go of the illusions that imprison us to discover direct and felt liberation - not conceptually or in the afterlife but right here and now? These were the questions that compelled Meister Eckhart to reflection, spiritual practice, and discovery.

In this in-depth learning program, James Finley guides us through teachings and meditations for bringing Meister Eckhart's wisdom into our daily lives - to find for ourselves "the indestructible joy that that transcends even death", and to experience God not as a separate being but as the loving eternal center that sustains and embraces each of us and all of creation.

If you could sum up Meister Eckhart's Living Wisdom in three words, what would they be?

simply coming home

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This is something I will listen to again and again and it needs, time, space and some reflection. Probably to much to do in one sitting but great!

Any additional comments?

Thank you James for passing on your wisdom and experience across psychological and spiritual healing. I think his voice and calmness in this book are great for taking some time out to reflect, participate and pay attention to what is and always was within us.
I personally found it helpful to have a teacher like this providing some guidance based on Eckharts's sermons.

attraction of what we already somehow know

The poetry and beauty of these talks is utterly breathtaking. Every word is sounded like the Eternal Lover in your ear, the Beloved calling you Home. In every word and the spaces between are the years and years of the deepest wisdom wrought from the daily, moment to moment journeying of the heart back into the embrace of God, only to leave us knowing that we have never ever been out of that embrace. These talks are an exquisite testimony to Love. Beautifully wrought. An ecstasy of communion through words - the nectar of the unbearably ecstatic understanding of who we really are. Thank you, thank you James, for sharing your grace and wisdom. You are God’s palpable, loving presence in this world. Thank you for speaking the very words of the Beloved to us all🙏🏻🌹

I found James Finley very hard to follow perhaps this is for intellectuals only? I preserved but still did not know much more about Meister Eckhart’s Wisdom than when I began. It’s probably just me.

Not what I was hoping for
