Leah

It took me a while - most of my life, in fact - to decide that my hometown of Good Grief, Idaho, is the best place in the world to live. But, I have and I love it...except for one thing.

My boss.

Okay, so the man is good at his job, we just have a tendency to disagree on how much activity the seniors at our assisted living center want to have.

I, personally, think they’d love to go on a whitewater rafting trip.

The Boss nixed that idea before my words landed in the space between his ears. He sees my mouth moving and just says “No.” (I think he grew up in the olden days and took Nancy Reagan’s slogan to heart.)

And just for the record, my boss is smart (very smart!) and handsome and funny, and totally NOT my type.

But, we need to convince seniors that retiring in Good Grief, Idaho, is a great idea, and I have plans that will make that happen, if I can only get my boss to go along with them.

With that in mind, I’m embarking on a new mission remembering that honey catches more flies than vinegar AND honey tends to make an already bad relationship even more awkward when worn topically over two human bodies that happen to be tied together...that one is going down as an experience I’d rather not have shared with my boss.

Doug

What can I say?

She’s a hurricane.

Also, I think we might have broken some kind of workplace harassment rules when, after being tied up and slathered with honey, I kissed her.

But a man can only take so much.

I guess it says something about the kiss when I have to admit, I bought another gallon of honey and borrowed my brother’s handcuffs - all (mostly) in the name of saving Good Grief’s senior living center.

A Wonderful Funny Read With Exciting Twists

This story provides laugh out loud moments as an adult care facility enjoys life. Jay Dyess does an amazing job with the many voices he provides in his narration of this story. If you have never heard Jay in his element...this is the perfect book to become a fan of his talent.

Hilariously Funny, But Unreal

The Narrator, Jay Dyess, takes an alright book and turns it into an enjoyable, and addictive must listen. He is a generous soul and it comes across in his narrative. He gives the characters just enough ‘personality’ that you know which person is speaking. I know some of the men come across as “John Wayne’ cowboys, but it’s endearing.

Jessie Gussman, the author, had me laughing immensely as her antics as the unknown author ‘Jennie/Jackie’ on the floor reading a book by Emma St. Clair! Maybe Jessie should become an activity’s director at a Living Care Unit. This book was truly a fun one, and my favorite, even though I thought it was entirely too far fetched. Perhaps, Jessie knows more of what goes on with the elderly than I do, and I’m out of touch. LOL!

Hilarious

Me and the Helpful Hurricane is a sweet and clean romcom. This is one of the funniest books I’ve read/listened to. The characters are delightful and I really want to be in a group of ladies like that when I’m that age! Their antics are hilariously creative. It’s all so well portrayed by the narrator. His performance of each character is perfection and his comedic timing is impeccable.

Lee the Helpful Hurricane

I totally enjoyed Helpful Hurricane! Not totally a romance but still a romance. More what life is really like. Uncertainties. The only thing is often Jay’s voice fades out so a few times you’re not sure what was said. But. Still. Enjoyed!!!

shenanigans or girls just want to have fun

Leah is the entertainment director at Cherry Tree Senior Living and boy do her ladies want to have fun. They were so funny and I loved how Leah went along with them but kept an eye on them. Doug at first appeared really uptight/strict but I did understand his position. Sparks fly and the senior residents are up to some matchmaking but who do they really want to match? There are so laugh out loud moments. I did miss hearing about her sisters so this book was slightly different in my opinion but just as humorous. Great ending!!!! Jay has to be my favorite narrator!!!

What trouble a bunch of senior citizens can get in

I loved all of their escapades. Leah is just doing her job as activities director at the assisted living center. However her boss, Doug, sees her as a troublemaker and she's constantly in trouble with him. I truly love that at some point he finds out that Leah is just working on making the seniors happy and allowing them to do some things other than bingo, knitting and watching TV. I also love that eventually he joins in on some of those activities, which leads to the river rafting trip, the honey (which was so funny) and eventually leads to adding more seniors to their facility enabling them to keep their doors open and keep both Leah and Doug employed.

Audio Book: I loved Jessie's cameo in this book and in the audio. Jay Dyess is incredible with his humor and timing and turning Jessie's work into magic. They are ever a great team. I, as always, love the voices Jay uses. And with this telling, I could almost taste the honey. It is easier to catch flies with honey than with vinegar. I laughed out loud all the way through this book!

Could only happen in a book!!!!!

This story is so laugh-out-loud unbelievable. A nursing home with 4 elderly women that have an outrageous bucket list! Do they really want to do all those things or is it a ploy to get the activity director hooked up with the director? Ms. Gussman has gone all out in her imagination with this book. I laughed so much my sides hurt. Of course, Mr. Dyess wonderful voice reading the story made it all so alive that I laughed harder than if I only read the words. Another excellent job!!!! I received a free copy. This is my voluntary opinion.

Fun listen

Let's all move to Good Grief, Idaho and have fun at their assisted living center. The trouble Leah gets into with the tenants are fun to listen to. You won't be disappointed with this book.
