Publisher's Summary
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Matilda by Roald Dahl, read by Kate Winslet.
'So Matilda's strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.'
Matilda is the world's most famous bookworm, no thanks to her ghastly parents.
Her father thinks she's a little scab. Her mother spends all afternoon playing bingo.
And her headmistress, Miss Trunchbull?
She's the worst of all.
She's a big bully, who thinks all her pupils are rotten and locks them in the dreaded Chokey.
Despite these beastly grownups trying to push her down, Matilda is an extraordinary girl with a magical mind.
And she's had enough.
So all the terrible adults had better watch out, because she's going to teach them a lesson they'll never forget!
Kate Winslet's award-winning and varied career has included standout roles in Titanic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Finding Neverland, Revolutionary Road and The Reader, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Also a highly acclaimed voice artist, she received the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for Children for Listen to the Storyteller.

7YR OLD STEP-GRAND DAUGHTER'S 1ST AUDIO BOOK
I gave Matilda (the book) and the audio book along with an iPod to my 7 yr old step-granddaughter for Christmas. She knew the story of Matilda but didn't have the book herself so I thought I would get her both the book and the audio book too. It was her first experience with an audio book and I encouraged her to read-along with the book and audio. She loved it. She said the lady (Kate Winslet) reading the story to her is very good and her voice is lovely. I think audio books, along with the physical book is a great way to encourage children to read. Hopefully she'll be like me and love her audio books and have a vast collection like I do.

Matilda truly is Magic
What a joy! What a delight! The imagery of the former Olympian hammer-throwing school principal Trunchball swinging that poor child by the objectionable pigtails around the classroom & out through the window was hilarious. Kate Winslet vocal representation of each character is divine. Her midland accents & energetic delivery of so many variations is outstanding & astounding. Matilda was the best healing for a hospital stay for both child & adult. Not to be missed& so well produced.

The best combination
The story is as perfect as always, but the thing that shines the most is Kate Winslet's accent work. Every character is distinct, and each character accent does not bleed into the narrator's voice at all. I finally understand why Kate Winslet has like eight Oscar nominations, I really understand now.

My daughter & I have listened to this about 4 times over 2 weeks. Kate Winslet’s reading of the characters & hilarious accents are just so good. On top of that, Ronald Dahl’s masterful story telling, character realisations & playful turns of phrase make this an all time classic for both kids & grown ups alike.

Absolutely brilliant
Kate Winslet is an absolute gem and performs the characters with real charm and talent. I’ve always loved this story but her performance brought the story to life in a really special way. So many parts had me absolutely laughing my head off (especially the insults and the children aspiring to rebel against Trunchbulls regime!). I think this is the best audio book on here. Really touching moments too. Loved it!

I found the story interesting enough to continue listening to the book despite the super annoying narration and character voices. Also, the narrator would go from whisper to scream so frequently that it made it almost impossible to adjust the volume of the audiobook for comfortable listening.

What's not to love?
What did you like most about Matilda?
I love every bit of the book. It's thoroughly entertaining and Kate Winslet was spectacular.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Matilda?
Several. I love Mrs Trunchball's encounter in class with smart Nigel 'unless-you-want my-middle-name' Hicks; the part where Lavender put the newt in her cup of water, and of course Matilda.
I think this is the best of Roald Dahl's books.
What about Kate Winslet’s performance did you like?
Everything, she made all the parts come to life.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed all the way through.
Any additional comments?
My children also loved it.
