About this listen

From the internationally bestselling author of The Atlas Six, Masters of Death is a queer, spellbinding fantasy bursting with Olivie Blake’s signature sharp wit, stunning prose and unforgettable characters.

‘Olivie Blake is a mind-blowing talent’ – Chloe Gong, author of These Violent Delights

This book is about an estate agent. Only she’s a vampire, the house on sale is haunted, and its ghost was murdered.

When Viola Marek hires Fox D’Mora to deal with a ghost-infested mansion, she expects a competent medium. But unbeknownst to Viola, Fox is not a medium at all. He’s a fraud – and the godson of Death.

As the mystery of the mansion unfolds, Viola and Fox are drawn into an unlikely quest that neither wants nor expects. They’ll need the help of a demonic personal trainer, a steadfast reaper, and an angel with her own secrets. It transpires that an inconvenient dead body and a lost love are intrinsically linked. Can this coalition of unwilling allies solve this conundrum and un-haunt a house – by winning a devious immortal game?

'A meditation on romance and mortality, with the most satisfying ending imaginable' – SFX

Critic Reviews

With a high-stakes game risking eternal oblivion, dialogue that crackles like an old-school Hollywood comedy, and a mystery to solve, Blake dazzles yet again. A winner
A meditation on romance and mortality, with the most satisfying ending imaginable
As much a delicious contest of wit, will, and passion as it is of magic, this book is half mystery, half puzzle, and wholly a delight (Holly Black, author of The Cruel Prince, on The Atlas Six)
Lethally smart. Filled with a cast of brilliantly realized characters, each entangled with one another in torturously delicious ways, The Atlas Six will grip you by the throat and refuse to let go. Olivie Blake is a mind-blowing talent (Chloe Gong, author of These Violent Delights, on The Atlas Six)
The Atlas Six will thrill those who love twisted plots, twisted relationships, and morally grey characters ready to kill for knowledge and power. Dark, ambitious, and engaging (H. G. Parry, author of The Magician's Daughter, on The Atlas Six)

Narration was good, however it was cringe at times when the narrator elected to make their voice high for the female characters and that...was distasteful on occasion.

Besides that though, the story was fun, albeit a little (a lot) confusing.

- found family
- romance
- fantasy/ urban fantasy
- dark academia?
- light spice/ adult content but not explicit

please note: my reading and listening experience was somewhat negatively impacted by the fact that the ebook and the audiobook was not matching... I suspect I somehow got my hands on the indie ebook rather than the final published version as there were significant discrepancies between the audiobook and the ebook.

I intend to reread at some stage on paperback because there were a lot of quotable moments.

Good read 👍

The author has a tallent for the written language, but her story telling is aweful. i made it through the entire book which is a credit to my tollerance for boredom.

why did i continue on if i wasnt enjoying it? well i just had to see how terrible the ending could possibly be, and it didn't dissapointed...it was meaningless drival.

i know i shouldnt knock someones hardwork and art, but if i can just save one person from reading this book of neverending dialogue then ive done my civic duty.

Utterly boring

I just can’t finish this book. I kept hoping that it would get better but just didn’t happen. Going to get a refund. Narration was hard to listen to. Nothing good about this book
