About this listen

Lamar Jimmerson is the leader of the Gnomon Society, the international fraternal order dedicated to preserving the arcane wisdom of the lost city of Atlantis. Stationed in France in 1917, Jimmerson comes across a little book crammed with Atlantean puzzles, Egyptian riddles, and extended alchemical metaphors. It's the Codex Pappus—the sacred Gnomon text. Soon he is basking in the lore of lost Atlantis, convinced that his mission on earth is to administer to and extend the ranks of the noble brotherhood.

Ok…this is quite the quirky tale and at times I questioned seeing it through, but keeping me in was the amazing narration of Jefferson Mays. In my experience, the skill of the narrator often determines the success of the audio book, and often books read by the author’s can be terrible! Further, accents and voices can also be a major failing point…this is where Jefferson shines, seamlessly dissolving from English aristocrat to American’s of all shades - truely, I rank this as probably the best narration of all the 200 or so Audible titles I’ve taken in to date - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!👍👍

What a Read! Jefferson May’s amazing narration makes this book!

Portis is only ever excellent.

This book has a religious focus with few attractive characters but full of Portis's characteristic humor so is very entertaining.

Portis only wrote five novels - each one is an exquisite jewel.

Portis on religious cults.

Charles Portis is amazing. The narrator did an excellent job. This is perhaps Portis’s funniest books. The character Austin Popper is hilarious.

Great novel, great narration
