But as entrepreneurs, we have to remember that there are people behind all that data. People who are looking to us to be a leader, to give advice, and to care. In this dog-eat-dog world, these are the people who are looking for someone who they can trust and who they know have their best interests in mind.

Every marketer tells a story. And if they do it right, we believe them. We believe that wine tastes better in a $20 glass than a $1 glass. We believe that an $80,000 Porsche Cayenne is vastly superior to a $36,000 VW Touareg, which is virtually the same car. We believe that $225 Pumas will make our feet feel better, and look cooler, than $20 no-names... and believing it makes it true.

It's more influential than advertising and far more effective. Can you create word of mouth for your product or idea? According to Berger, you can. Whether you operate a neighborhood restaurant, a corporation with hundreds of employees, or are running for a local office for the first time, the steps that can help your product or idea become viral are the same.

A book for humans and well those in business too.
I am not sure I would even do this book justice. But I will share my story and experience. Which considering this book and its focus is well, kinda spot on! I was in the entrepreneurship world 2 times before. I learned lessons and pick up some gems along the way-thankful. I have 2 new projects and I knew I needed a different approach, a different plan this time. So since the beginning of 2019 I have been digging deep and listening to business-related books, self-development from women thought leaders and now in the marketing space. Since I was not a business major, nor did my healthcare degree require any business classes - I know I needed more knowledge. When I first started this book thought " he sounds like Ferris Bueller" ( I think he does) Back to the book. I feel like not only have I learned some powerful business insight - I have learned to be a different human. The case studies and examples are pretty EPIC. Learned a lot about my favorite brands. Learned I need to shop at Room & Board (ha). I also learned that I need to dig deeper into the brands I like, follow and trust, and re-exam some too. I am so thankful for this book. I am of the thought that even if you are not in business, business owner or in marketing - there are lesson and skills in this book that are of VALUE and meaning. This could be of value for healthcare - perhaps can spark a revolution there! I move forward in my projects with a much better understanding of "meaning, purpose and marketing" Thank you

To Succeed, Follow the Customer's Lead
What a tremendous book. I've purposefully spaced out my consumption of this book just to allow myself to absorb it properly. Mark's words and dictation set the pace for a brand new marketing world beset with problems and challenges that are best solved by digesting these three words: be more human. There have been plenty of marketing messages and leaders who have shared this over the years, but no one has ever done so more succinctly or convincingly. The case studies Mark shares in this book not only capture the reader's attention, they grab every business squarely by their shoulders and look them straight in the eye, saying, "I know some of this sounds foreign, but this is the way to future and present success." It's a great book that I will share with other business leaders and friends who ask me about business and marketing. Already it is changing the way I view promotion and planning. Thank you, Mark, for putting all of this on paper (and then reading it to us!)

Not that easy
I can agree with the author about marketers being f...d up with lots of irritating methods. However, the key is not in tools marketers are using, but in their professionalism. Word of mouth, customer reviews and influencers are not a silver bullet. It can be used in a totally wrong and irritating way too. I agree marketers should think about being really helpful for their customers. It doesn’t mean being amazing on each touch point, it’s impossible to achieve. But human approach - that’s what we really need now.
