About this listen

From Manuka to Manhattan, Lauren’s going all the way!

Lauren is a curator at the National Aboriginal Gallery in Canberra. She's good at her job, passionate about the arts and focused on her work - that is, when she's not focusing on Adam.

But Adam is a player, on and off the field. Lauren knows he's the one, but he doesn't seem to feel the same way about her. If she just waits long enough, though, surely he'll realise how much he needs her?

Then her boss offers her the chance of a lifetime - a fellowship at the Smithsonian in New York. Lauren has to make some big decisions: the Man or Manhattan?

Enjoyed the glimpses of indigenous and art references, the sustained love sick idiocy, sugary food obsession and neurosis not so much.

I liked this one but I felt it kinda finished too quickly. I wanted to know more. Worth a listen though it frustrates me how whiney she is over Adam

Easy to listen to story of a woman finding her place in her world. Nothing was too heavy. I personally didn’t enjoy the infatuation with the footie player. That seemed too juvenile for the woman she was supposed to be. But saying that it did not stop me listening and completing the story.

Simple romance.

Loved the story and the history of this book.
At first I did not even read the title detail but was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the book.

Great Aussie book

After listening to any of Anita Heiss’s books i want someone to make it into a movie.
This is such a beautiful, educational and empowering love story between people, art and their country (both Aus & US).

Wish this was made into a movie

The romantic sub plot/main plot(?) of this book annoyed me. It was very predictable & I was appalled at how long it took Lauren to see Adam for the douch he totally is.

However, I loved everything to do with Lauren’s work & the artists & politics she talked about. And it made me super nostalgic for NYC.

Could see it coming like the 2020 bushfires…

I enjoyed the historical educational aspects of first nations people from around the world and applaud the authors skill to weave in modern day dating scene with old fashioned romanticism.

Nicely written

Compelling First Nations elements. Seemed a bit far fetched that literally every man Lauren meets would be interested in her.

It’s fine.
